Obituary of George Melnechenko
MELNECHENKO - Mr. George Melnechenko, formerly of the Theodore district entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Canora Hospital following a period of failing health. He was 69 years of age. George was born on July 24, 1940 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan a son of Peter and Effie (nee Hutzul) Melnechenko. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Lysenko School. George began farming at a very young age and farmed all his life. Despite hardships, George was always able to maintain his kind and generous unselfish love. He lived a simple independent lifestyle with a "don't fuss over me" attitude. He was high spirited, quick witted and sentimental. He was forever concerned about others, giving of himself without reserve. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humour. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his sisters and brother: Mary (Wray) Lynch - Moose Jaw, Lil (Steve) Gresko - Grimsby, ON, Cecil Vromman - Toronto, June (Ernie) Rees - Don Mills, ON, Mike -Theodore, Iris Karpinski - Fenwood, Elaine Denesik - Theodore, Alice (Tom) Gardner - Surrey, BC; sister-in-law Elaine Melnechenko - Scarborough, ON as well as many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his grandparents, Peter & Lena Hutzul and Lily & Peter Melnechenko; his parents Effie & Peter; sister Anne; brothers Henry and Peter; nephew Randy Vromman; brothers-law Frank Vromman and Mike Karpinski. George will be missed and lovingly remembered in our hearts. The funeral service was held on Friday, November 27th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Very Rev. Archpriest Peter Wasylenko officiating. The responses were led by Jason Kopan. Serving as the cross bearer was Neil Lynch. All those who have shared in George's life throughout the years were considered honorary pallbearers. The interment followed in St. Mary's (Lysenko) Cemetery, Laurie District with Peter Hutzul, Terry Hutzul, Mike Melnechenko, Terry Bodnar, Ray Lynch and Garry Bodnar serving as the casket bearers.
