Obituary of Molly Norman

NORMAN - On Sunday, November 29, 2009, Molly Norman passed away peacefully at Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years of age. Mary Eileen (Molly) Norman was born June 28, 1917 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the third eldest of Ernest and Alice Wood's seven children. She attended Grunert School and the Yorkton Collegiate. She worked as a secretary until marrying John Wesley Norman on July 17, 1942. Molly and Wesley farmed the Reid family homestead in the RM of Orkney. Molly lived in their original home until September 2002 when she moved to Yorkton. After two very enjoyable years at the Bentley Retirement Home, Molly moved to the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats. Although life was at times difficult for Molly, she met each challenge with strength and dignity, always remaining a woman of quiet faith. Molly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of life on the farm where as a homemaker she faithfully raised her family. Molly was a great provider. The fruits of her labor were enjoyed by all, especially her fresh baking, dill pickles, relish and her famous raspberry jelly! She found pleasure in tending the family garden where she grew many flowers that could always be found decorating her home. Molly loved life and lived each day by the values she believed in based on the Golden Rule. Molly will be sadly missed and always remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren who were the lights of her life. Molly was predeceased by her son Wayne in 1961, husband Wesley in 1977, sisters Phyllis Border, Helen Moss, and Doris Anderson, eight brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Molly is survived by her son Robert (Cheryl) Norman of Saskatoon; daughter Marjorie (Bernie) Wlock of Yorkton; Molly's grandchildren Tracy (Jeff), Trent (Magel), Brian, Michael (Danielle), Jesse, Brett and Jana; great grandchildren Sophia, Lauren, Ava and Lucas; her brother Tom (Erma) Wood of Yorkton; twin sisters Iris Markham of Winnipeg and Ivis Young of Regina; sister-in-law Helen Norman of Yorkton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service was held on Friday, December 11, 2009 from St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Doug Craig officiating. Janet Forrest gave scripture readings and Jeanette Kirkness read a poem by Helen Steiner Rice 'I Meet God in the Morning'. Organist, Shani Apland led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'How Great Thou Art', 'In the Bulb There is a Flower', and 'Those Hearts We Have Treasured'. Soloist, Deb Thompson sang 'In the Garden'. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Douglas, Ken and Don Norman, John Mandziuk, Bill Forrest and Craig Grunert serving as the casketbearers.
