Obituary of Rose Kobitz

KOBITZ - Mrs. Rose Kobitz of Yorkton passed away peacefully following a massive stroke, on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, with her family and Rev Milo at her bedside. Rose was born in the Otthon District on November 12, 1917 to parents John and Katerina (nee Kulasa) Osmak. Rose was united in marriage June 6, 1943, to Alex Kobitz. They were blessed with 4 daughters and 3 sons. They farmed in the Saltcoats area until 1972, when they moved to Yorkton. Rose worked at the Poultry Eviscerating plant, which was a new experience for her. She enjoyed the job, the comradery of the workplace, new purpose, new people and a pay cheque. Alex passed away in Jan 2004, Rose then moved to Fisher Court. There she enjoyed knitting mitts, baking pies, cookies, cinnamon buns, making perogies and socializing. She also spent many hours enjoying the Blue Jay games on TV- win or lose. Her new sports interests included football, hockey and curling. She was interested and cared about people in general, the world and the events of the day. Her family, friends and new extended family at Fisher Court were also of great importance to her. It was a sisterhood of support. She enjoyed reading the bible and also looked forward to attending St Andrews church on Sunday - followed by coffee at Tim Horton's with Edna, Gerald, and Joanne. She kept her mind alert and stimulated with conversation crossword puzzles and attending functions. She always had time for whoever came to visit. Her all time thrill was to see Walter Ostanek perform. Although she could no longer get up and polka, it provided her with a tremendous amount of joy watching the dancers and listening to the accordion and polkas. She will be dearly missed! Predeceased by her parents John and Katerina Osmak; Her brothers John, Tom Roberts, Steve, Joe, and James, and her sisters Annie, Mickey, Kay, Helen, Pauline, Sonia, and Nettie and son-in-law Ambrose Backlur. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her children:Joanne Backlur; Verene(Bob) Elmy: Ross (Marj) Kobitz; John (Betty) Kobitz; Joe Kobitz; Yvonne(Blaine) Thorvaldson; Kim (Craig) Dobko; sister Olga Kowal and sister-in-law Laura Osmak; Her Grandchildren: Lisa (Chris) Sequeira; Kevin (Chris) Elmy; Leann (Mike) Jarvis; Karen (Randy) Hryniuk; Karla Kobitz; Jennifer Kobitz and Jake Dingman; Jeffrey Kobitz; Dante, Aria, Ireland and Grace Kobitz - Guthrie; Tyler and Coltyn Thorvaldson; Jenel (Andy) Michel; Tennille (Brent) Zatrepalek; Derek Dobko; Greatgrandchildren: Connor and Courtney Lutz; Christianna and Cambrielle Sequeira; Kennedy and Haley Elmy; Brayden and Cailin Jarvis; Brennan Michel; Wyatt and Codey Strutynski, Pressleigh Dingman. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 12th at St. Andrew's United Church, Yorkton with Rev. Milo Spooner Craig officiating. The organist, Shani Apland with members of St. Andrew's Church Choir led in the singing of the hymns, 'Make A Joyful Noise', 'Give To Us Laughter', 'I Am The Light of the World' and 'I Danced In The Morning'. Special music 'Angels Among Us' by Alabama was included in the service. Honourary Pallbearers were Fisher Court Friends and everyone else who had a special place in her heart. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kevin Elmy, Lisa Sequeira, Jeffrey Kobitz, Blaine Thorvaldson, Derek Dobko and Tennille Zatrepalek serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Rose may be made towards fundraising for the Cardiac Care Unit at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre or to St. Andrew's Church Memorial Fund.
