FERLEYKO - Agnes Ferleyko, beloved wife of Al Ferleyko of Yorkton entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 12, 2009 after a short courageous battle with cancer. Agnes was born June 7, 1935 to Johan and Margaret Zandee (nee Guest). Agnes was born on her family farm in Theodore, Saskatchewan. She was the middle child in a family of four brothers. Her family farmed there until 1940 when her father enlisted in the Free Dutch Army. As these were depression years they left the farm and moved to a small home on her mother's parents' farm. Agnes moved with her mother and her brother Allan to Stratford, Ontario for 6 months prior to her father being shipped overseas to serve in the war. They returned to Theodore where Agnes attended Creekside School from 1941 to 1945. When her father returned from the services, he purchased a farm in the Echo School District, northeast of Langenburg. In January, 1946 Agnes attended Echo Rural School until grade 8, she continued correspondence for grades 9 & 10 and attended Langenburg high school for her 11th year. Agnes attended the Yorkton Collegiate Secretarial School where she graduated and went on to work at Smith Fruit. On August 25, 1956 she was united in marriage to Albert Ferleyko at St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton. Agnes worked at Smith Fruit until the birth of their daughter, Deborah in July 1958. They were blessed with the birth of four more children, David, Donna, Diane and lastly Darren born in 1973. Agnes raised her own children and had a small day care. As her children became older she went to work for the Yorkton School district as a teacher's assistant where she worked with special needs children. She retired from the school in 2000. Agnes loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nothing gave her as much pleasure as spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of Westview United Church. She enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking, baking, and knitting. She leaves to cherish her memory, Albert, her husband of 53 years, her children, Deborah (Perry) McFarlane of Calgary, David (Nicole) of Edmonton, Donna (Terry) Best of Regina, Diane (Carey) Gleason of Yorkton, Darren (Jennifer) of Calgary. Her grandchildren, Abby (Ryan), Anita (John), Adam, Alden, Evan, Brittnie (Josh), Jordan (Aaron), Amanda, Chris, Curtis, Hannah, Hayden, & Heather. Her great grandchildren, Max and Kaiden. Her brothers, Tom (Elaine), Allan (Doris), Donnie (Wendy), many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, and her pets, Safron & Rain. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Jack, and her sister in law Pat. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Faye L. Greer officiating. Close family friend, Don Milne gave scripture readings and the benediction. Sandy Bode gave the eulogy, and the poem God Saw You getting Tired was recited by four of the grandchildren. Organist, Marilyn Newell led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee', 'The Old Rugged Cross', and 'Joy to the World'. Soloist, Dale Milne sang 'Amazing Grace'. The interment followed in the Guest Cemetery, south of Theodore with daughter Deborah McFarlane as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information
