Obituary of Charles Sikorski

A memorial folder from the funeral service may be printed under the "Memories" tab, then choose "Memorial Program". Charles Paul Sikorski was born on November 16, 1919 to parents, Peter and Pelagia (Kresowaty) Sikorski, on the family homestead east of Ituna. He attended St. Stanislaus School from grades one to eight. Charles enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army while working in Toronto and served as a heavy artillery gunner overseas. Upon returning to Ituna, Charles met Julia Kaczmar whom he wed on July 21, 1946. They farmed east of Ituna for sixteen years. During this time they were blessed with the births of their two children, Verner and Gail. They sold the farm on 1961, moving to Calgary for a year after which time they returned to Ituna where they built their home in which Julia still resides. Charles suffered a stroke nine years ago and became a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. Charles was a very meticulous person who liked things done in an orderly manor. His grandchildren can attest to this. He volunteered his time freely, helping his children, brothers and nephews on the farm as well as his neighbours, whenever the need arose. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, playing crib, 3-Spot and watching sports. Charles passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at The Ituna Pioneer Health Centre. Charles was predeceased by his Mother and Father; brothers, John, Adolph, Walter, Frank, Joe and Leo, and sisters, Baby Julia in infancy, Rosie Filko and Julia Biss. Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Julia to whom he was wed for 63 years; his son Verner (Donna); and his daughter Gail (Len Yonkman), his four grandchildren, Tricia (Cordell Dixon), Tara (Jhonatan Nunez), Nolan Yonkman and April Yonkman, his two great grandchildren Bryce and Paityn Dixon. The family wishes to thank the Ituna Pioneer Lodge and the Balcarres Hospital for the care given to Charles during his stay.
