Obituary of Nephie Olson
OLSON - Nephie Olson, resident of parkside Extendicare Nursign Home in Regina, formerly of Yorkton passed away January 18, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Nephie was born on April 1, 1915 in Tuffnell, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in the Layco District. Once Nephie completed grade 8 at Echo Lake she began working for several farming families. She also worked as a cook for several C.P.R. gangs until 1948. On December 9, 1948 Nephie began to work as a cook at the Yorkton Union Hospital, where she worked for several years. On April 23, 1950 her address was Cabin #11 Tourist Camp. During the summer of 1964 Nephie moved to Regina, where she worked in the restaurant at SaskPower as well as in a couple of other restaurants after that. In 1977 Nephie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which ended her working career. As Nephie's MS progressed she needed a wheelchair to get around, which did not stop her from doing the things she loved such as shopping, playing BINGO, going to the Casino and visiting family and friends who were near and far. One of the things that Nephie really enjoyed was birthday parties and most of her family and friends made it a priority to attend her birthday parties in Regina. Nephie loved the trip she took to Las Vegas with Gail and Paul and spoke of this often because it meant so much to her. Nephie loved to dress to the nines and in 3" heels in her younger years. You could be sure to see her at dances where she would dance the night away. Nephie enjoyed music very much and played the organ as a young girl as well as the piano later in her life. Along with dancing Nephie spent her time making candles and ceramics; picking berries; sewing; and baking. Nephie was predeceased by her parents, Gunder and Marie Olson; brothers, Clarence, Milo and Gilbert Olson; sisters, Clara Morris and Gladys Clarke; brothers-in-law, Chester Morris and Mac Clarke; sisters-in-law, Julia and Myrtle Olson; nephews and great-nephews; Victor Morris, Gerald Morris, Wesley Clarke, Garry Clarke, Steve Seidlik and Mark Morris; nieces and great-neices, Doreen Pfeifer, Kathy Clarke, Rhonda Morris and Lindsey Hanley; cousins, Verna Bray and Odean Johnson.
