Obituary of Eli Anaka
ANAKA - It is with great sadness the family of Eli Anaka announce his peaceful passing on January 27, 2010 at the age of 88 years at St. Joseph's Home in Saskatoon. Eli was born on June 24, 1921 in the Gorlitz district of Saskatchewan, a son of Frosina (nee Stawoway) and Michael Anaka. He was raised on the family farm in the Gorlitz area. On October 15, 1944 Eli was united in marriage to Mary Procyshen. They farmed in the Gorlitz district and were blessed with three children: Richard, Darlene and Robert. In 1999 the couple retired from the farm and moved to Saskatoon to reside with their son Richard. Mary passed away August 25, 2003, following that time Eli remained with Richard until he began to suffer from failing health. In June of this year he became a resident of St. Joseph's Care Home, where he had since resided. Eli was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Mary, brothers: Ted, William, Harry, John and Pete, and sister, Anne Chabun. He leaves to cherish his memory his family: son Richard of Saskatoon; daughter Darlene (Gary) May of Chase BC; son Robert of Kamloops BC; granddaughters: Shanda (Brian) Gebbie of Port Moody BC, and Sheena (Joe) Sutherland of Langely BC. Also a sister Mary (Fred) Gabora of Regina; and sisters-in-law Mary Anaka of Canora, Evelyn Anaka of Saskatoon, and Barbara Anaka of Campbell River BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, January 31, 2010 and the funeral service was held on Monday, February 1, 2010, all from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. Father Rodion Luciuk of St. Mark's Orthodox Church officiated. Cantor for the prayer service was Bob Rohr and Rodney Flunder was the cantor for the funeral. Honorary bearers were Nellie Wasyliw, Barbara Anaka, Vicky Procyshen and Evelyn Anaka. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ed Anaka, Wayne Unyi, Henry Wasylyshen, Harvey Wasyliw, Bill Heshka and Danny Wasyliw serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
