Obituary of Edward Polegi
POLEGI - Mr. Edward Emil Polegi of Jedburgh, beloved husband of Angeline Polegi died on February 26, 2010 at Regina General Hospital. He was 81 years of age. Edward Emil Polegi, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, was born June 23, 1928. He was the second son of a pioneer family and grew up on the homestead with his parents Emil and Minnie (Bogdasavich) Polegi, brother Carl and sisters Frances and Florence. The family raised Percheron horses and he loved every part of being around these draft animals. Known throughout his life as Emil, he loved sports, particularly hockey. He was an aggressive defenseman, and played in front of his brother Carl in goal. Emil married the local schoolteacher, Angeline Churko, in 1954. Emil went to school in Jedburgh, but was always happy to leave his books behind and get back to the farm and on to the land. When his Dad and Mom moved into Jedburgh, Emil and Ange took over the family farm. Being a farmer defined him. He grew grain and raised Hereford cattle. Together, Emil and Ange raised three children. Emil enjoyed all the social activities of a small community - he was an avid curler and a whist and cribbage player to be reckoned with. He taught each of his children and grandchildren to play, and card tournaments were always a part of family gatherings. In the summer, when he would take a break from farm work, he loved nothing more than to have friends and family gather for a wiener roast around the campfire. Emil was predeceased by his parents and his sister Frances. and he leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his wife of 55 years, Ange, brother Carl and sister Florence, son John (Mary) and his children Christina (Daniel), Michael (Lydia) and Stephanie, daughter Brenda and her children Regan (Travis) and Nathan, and son Allan (Juanita) and children Justine, Murray and Kaitlyn, and three great granddaughters, Kristen, Sarah and Athena, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
