Obituary of Olga Spilchen

SPILCHEN - Mrs. Olga Spilchen of Saskatoon, formerly of Yorkton and the Good Spirit district passed away on March 2, 2010. She was 77 years of age. Olga was born on February 24, 1933 in the Whitesand district, daughter of Myron and Mary (nee Pawliw) Nestorik. She received her education at Homestead School and helped on the family farm. On October 18, 1949 Olga was united in marriage to Matt Spilchen. The couple farmed in the Whitesand district and raised their two sons. Olga worked at Good Spirit Provincial Park and in 1987 semi-retired and moved to Spiritwood Acres. In 1999 they moved to Yorkton where they enjoyed their new home.| In 2006 with failing health Olga & Matt moved to the Bentley Retirement Home in Yorkton and in 2007 they moved to Caleb Manor in Saskatoon and unto Emar Court to be close to Metro who resides in Stensrud Lodge. Olga enjoyed her gardens, flowers, visits with her children and grandchildren and the new friends she had met. Olga entered eternal rest on March 2, 2010 at Saskatoon City Hospital. She was 77 years of age. She is survived by her husband Matt of Saskatoon; sons Barrie (Eileen) of Yorkton and Maynard (Bernie) of Saskatoon; grandchildren Brad of Leduc, AB, Scott (Kelly) of Regina, Vanessa (Shawn) of Saskatoon, Kyle and Dannelle of Saskatoon; great grandson Seth of Yorkton; nephew Nolan (Kerri) of Saskatoon, niece Niomie of Edmonton and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nephews & nieces. Olga was predeceased by her parents, Myron & Mary and brothers, Leonard & Lawrence. Prayers were held on Sunday, March 7th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre led by Rev. Fr. Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. The funeral service was held on Monday, March 8th at the Family Centre with Rev. Father Vladimir Kolpakov, C.Ss.R. officiating. Leading in the responses were Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & Parish Choir Members. Maynard Spilchen shared reflections of his mother's life. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Scott Spilchen, Brad Spilchen, Kyle Spilchen, Darcy Spilchen, Garry Loutitt and Nick Yanko serving as the casket bearers. A reception followed at the Family Centre at which time Barrie Spilchen expressed words of appreciation to all. Memorials in memory of Olga can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a Charity of Choice as gifts of remembrance.
