Obituary of Nettie Smandych

SMANDYCH - Mrs. Nettie Smandych of Yorkton passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 93 years of age. Anastasia (Nettie) Smandych was born on March 12, 1917 in the Calder District; daughter of Harry & Dora (nee Shasko) Matcyk. Nettie was raised on the farm and as a young woman worked for various families. On June 13, 1938 she was married to Mike Smandych. After marriage, she was a homemaker and participated in various Togo community activities, including the Royal Purple and volunteered at the Silver Thread. Upon their retirement, the couple moved into Yorkton in 1991. Nettie enjoyed playing cards, bingo and shuffleboard. In 2005 Nettie and Mike became residents of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. Predeceased by her husband Mike and parents; brother's Steve and Mike; and sister's Susie Smandych and Ann Denka. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Bob & Edrie of Kelowna, BC; and Al & Malvina of Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Lysia, Trista, Trevor and Nathan; great grandchildren: Parker, Fiona, Ainsley & Jayden. Also one sister Mary Prysiazniuk of Saskatoon and numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family CentreFaye L. Greer of Westview United Church officiated. The hymns, "In the Garden" and "Peace in The Valley" were included in the service. Tributes were conveyed by Al & Lysia Smandych . Interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Trista (nee Smandych) Bailey serving as the urnbearer.
