Obituary of Eleanor Shuya
Shuya - Mrs. Eleanor Shuya of Yorkton, formerly of Kelvington, beloved wife of William, passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with family at her side at the age of 91 years. Eleanor was born on August 5, 1918 at London, England, the eldest child of James & Ellen Allen. She married William Shuya on November 27, 1945 in London, England. Twins, Elizabeth & William, were born in England. In 1947, Eleanor & twins arrived in Canada at PIER 21, Halifax, NS and joined William at Kelvington. They settled on a farm west of Kelvington and were blessed with 6 more children. Eleanor endured the many hardships of a War Bride by leaving everything and everyone she knew to live somewhere else all for the sake of love. She belonged to the Meadow Bank Ladies Aid and the Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion in Kelvington and Lintlaw. Eleanor enjoyed preparing meals for her family, entertaining, singing, playing piano, babysitting, knitting, needlework, reading and watching OLD movies. Eleanor (Lena) was predeceased by parents, Ellen & James, grandchildren: Neil Zahayko, Gloria Chapman, Kevin Woytas and Loran Woytas and great grandchild Christopher Chapman; sister 's Margaret and Betty, and brothers Cyril and James. She is survived by her husband William; children: Elizabeth (Orest) Zahayko, Yorkton; William (Bernice) Saskatoon; Shirley (Charles) Woytas, Sturgis; Gerald (Lynn) Little Bear Lake; Brian (Margaret) Greenwater Lake Provincial Park; Miles (Christine) Yorkton; Melinda (Dick) Carter, Regina; and Brenda (Dale) Bernard, Carrot River. Grandchildren: Michelle, David, and Cameron Zahayko; Emanuel (Tara) Shuya; Christine Thompson; Ryan (Wendy) Shuya; Amy Shuya; Melissa (Jesse) Rosengren; Matthew and Kathleen Shuya; Shawn (Kim), Tracy, Dayne Johnson; Jeremy Ausland, Craig (Preetika) Ausland, and Chantelle Bernard. Great Grandchildren: Annika Zahayko, Beth and Ashley Shuya, Kurtis, Brandy, and Jennifer Thompson, Laura Chapman, Erin and Tyler Woytas, Andrew and Katherine Shuya, Angel, Darian, and Khendon Johnson, Ryder Ausland, and Nana's special friend Wendy Severin. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, June 10th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Luanne Hrywkiw of Holy Trinity Anglican Church officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler accompanied the soloist in the singing of the hymn, "Amazing Grace" and the congregation in the singing of hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus", "Lord of The Dance" and "Here I Am Lord". The readers were Elizabeth and Christine Shuya. All her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were considered honorary pallbearers. Chantelle Bernard and Angel Johnson were named as Guest Book attendees. The eulogy was shared by Michelle Zahayko, Kathleen Shuya. The interment will take place in the Kelvington Town Cemetery. Memorials in Eleanor's name may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
