She was the daughter of Stanley and Lucy (nee Grzebinski) Szarkowicz. Jean grew up with 13 brothers and sisters. Due to an accident with a team of horses, Jean was hard of hearing from an early age. Jean's schooling was at the School for the Deaf from 1937 to 1942. She then went to work in Winnipeg at a blue jean factory and then afterwards moved to Toronto to work for the Florentine Company. Jean met Peter Lambert at her brother Andrew's farm. Jean and Peter were married in Ituna on June 11, 1955. They lived on a farm twelve miles south of Kelliher. They lived on the farm until 1967, when a fire destroyed the house. At that time they moved to Kelliher. Jean was known for her excellent meals, especially her chicken dinners and the ability to put together a full course meal on very short notice when company would arrive unexpected. Jean was a warm, intelligent and compassionate woman who lived a full and rich life. She lovingly, with her husband Peter, raised a successful family and provided a happy home full of fun and love. Any struggles she was faced with, only strengthened her faith in God. Jean was energetic and tireless as she maintained the household and worked on the farm. Every year she lovingly tended her garden and animals. She took great pride in her children and their accomplishments and had many years of watching her grandchildren grow and thrive. We will always remember Jean's wonderful spirit and the manner in which she was always gracious to family and friends.
