Obituary of Wilma Austin

Wilma Louise Petruniak was born on March 25, 1942 to parents Steve and Nellie at Yorkton. She was raised on the family farm in the Calder district, and received her education at Torsk School until grade eight. After leaving school she worked as a babysitter and waitress. On October 5, 1962 she married Harry Austin and had two children Lori and Dale. They moved to Pinepoint, NWT in 1968. In 1974 she returned to Yorkton where she took grades nine and ten. In the fall of 1975 she took a hairdressing course and opened up a hair salon called Wil-Car Styling Boutique in Canora. In 1978 she moved to Fort McMurray, AB and opened up a mobile hairdressing service called Dial a Hairstyle for 20 years. Feeling a need to change careers in 1990 she took an Early Childhood Development course and finally received grades 11 and 12. From 1992 to 1997 she opened a family day-care home for children 0-6 years old, with special emphasis on the special needs children of the community. From 2001 to 2007 she resided at Fork Lake, AB. In 2007 she returned to Fort McMurray, where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Wilma enjoyed fishing, gardening, craftwork, playing guitar, reading, and a good game of cards. Wilma passed away suddenly following a brief illness on Monday, June 28, 2010. She was 68 years of age. She was predeceased by her parents Steve and Nellie: three brothers George, James, & William Petruniak. She is survived by her daughter Lori (Regan) Bodnarchuk, son Dale Austin, grandchildren Chance, Desiree & Syrina Bodnarchuk, and six sisters; Dora Werner, Anne Bennett, Marjorie Mankish, Kathleen Boychuk, Shirley (Erik) Hansen, & Virginia Wandy.
