Obituary of Elizabeth Florence Adamiak

ADAMIAK - Elizabeth Adamiak wife of the late Joseph Adamiak of Yorkton, formerly of the Calder district passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, with her family by her side. Elizabeth Florence (nee Novakowski) Adamiak was the tenth of thirteen children born to Anthony and Zuzanna (nee Fullawka) Novakowski, on the family farm, in the Tiny district of Saskatchewan, on May 18, 1936. She attended a variety of schools in the area as her dad was a carpenter, completing jobs in various places. In 1946, the family moved to Glencoe, ON, as her dad applied his carpenter trade. In 1949, the family returned to Saskatchewan. After completing her schooling, Elizabeth was employed as a housekeeper and child care worker in Calgary and Rama, SK district. While providing child care for a teacher, she met her future husband Joseph Adamiak. They were married on July 23, 1955 and settled on the family farm in the Calder, SK district, where Elizabeth resided until 2000. The last ten years of her life were lived in Yorkton. For those who knew Elizabeth, she was an active person. She was famous for her gigantic gardens, multiple farm animals, and feasts that fed every person who enjoyed her meals. Her famous perogies, cabbage rolls, bread, cinnamon buns and quilts comforted many individuals over the years. She enjoyed activities that her children and grandchildren participated in, and was proud of all of their accomplishments. She was a member of the Calder Ladies Community Club and the St. Gerard's CWL. She also had a Tuesday Coffee Club with former Calder area residents Jennie Matcyk and Pauline Woroschuk, and regular visits with Margaret Liebrecht. Family and friends meant everything to Elizabeth and giving was part of what she did every day. She was the kind of person that would drive 10 hours for a baby shower and wonder why you weren't doing the same thing.
