Obituary of Robert Fieseler

ROBERT (BOB) HEINRICH FIESELER passed away peacefully July 13, 2010 with his family by his side at the Langenburg Care Home. Bob was born August 28, 1927 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan on the family farm 5 miles north of Langenburg. He was the youngest child of 7 born to Heinrich and Philipina. When he was growing up and working along side his brother Franklin and his Dad, horses were of course used for all the work - no doubt where his love of horses began. The work was hard but there were always lots of gatherings and parties at the farm - and many barn dances. Since Bob loved to dance it seems so perfect that his relationship with the love of his life, Cleo Moore, began at a dance in Russell. They were married on May 14, 1952 and fittingly the celebration was at the Fieseler Family farm. Bob and Cleo were blessed with six children and 8 grandchildren and lived at the farm for 54 of their 56 years of marriage when they moved to Langenburg in 2006. Though Bob farmed for most of his life he worked hard at many other jobs as well. He worked on the oil rigs in Alberta before he married Cleo. He worked on construction of the K-1 potash mine in Esterhazy. He bartended at the Langenburg Hotel. He was a Co-op milkman on the Brendenbury/Churchbridge route. He worked full time besides as a carpenter with Johnny Schmidt and later with Don Bot. Bob and Cleo were janitors at the Langenburg High school for a number of years. After Bob and Cleo sold the land to Don and Marion Werle in 1992 he needed to find something to fill some of the void he felt when he was no longer farming so he maintained the St. Paul's Cemetery for many years until 2007 when he was 79 years old. Bob was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served on Council for many years. When renovations were being done in 2000 he worked tirelessly to see them completed. He was also a founding member of the Langenburg Lions Club. He was an avid sportsman. Though he had a serious injury to his leg when he was a teenager and could no longer play ball he managed and coached the Hohenlohe Hornets baseball team for many years and was so very proud of that time and his team. He was still coaching every Major Baseball game he watched on TV. He went to many Yorkton Cardinals games with Ruben even last year. He was a passionate hockey fan who treasured not only his sons Roy and Grant's years playing hockey but those of his five grandsons as well. He was always a supporter of the Langenburg Warriors and Minor Hockey. One of the hardest things for him was this spring when he wasn't well enough to go to Rylan's Yorkton Terrier games. He belonged to the Men's, Farmers' and Mixed Curling clubs and curled for many years until his knees would no longer let him. He was an avid curling fan and watched it at the rink and on TV and could definitely call the shots. Bob's special building projects are endless and not only his family but so many others have his barn-board chairs, frames, hockey stick tables and chairs to mention only a few that they will treasure. Bob learned to butcher and make sausage from his Dad. He and Cleo made delicious summer sausage, pork sausage, liverwurst and headcheese and we still miss it. Bob and Cleo spent countless hours at Pyott's West helping build Wally Becker's cabin and then at their own trailer site. He and Cleo were so thrilled when Cindy and Daryl took over their site and he was still able to go out and work at projects there. Of course he still managed to fit in time for fishing. He was such a friendly caring man who treasured his many friends. He was most passionate about his family and loved and treasured each of his children and grandchildren and most especially his beloved "MaMa". Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Cleo; his son Grant; son-in-law Wayne; his parents Heinrich and Philipina; sisters Bertha, Lydia, Adella and Frieda; brothers Erwin and Franklin. Bob leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his children and grandchildren: Debbie (Dave), Allison (Jared); Donna (Lee), Blake and Scott; Roy (Cathy), Kristin and Justin; Laura, Kalee, Kyle and Kory; Cindy (Daryl), Mandi and Rylan. Also his sisters-in-law Mavis, Maureen (Bob); brother-in-law Keith and nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Prayers were held on Thursday, July 15th and the funeral service on Friday, July 16th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Langenburg with Pastor Michael Bergman officiating. The pianist, Kim Vosper led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Softly and Tenderly". A solo, "Angels Among Us" (Alabama) was sung by Terry Hildebrandt. A musical selection, "Daddy's Hand's" by Holly Dunn was the recessional. Readings were presented by Eda Fieseler and Allison Wiebe. Serving as the ushers for the service were Jeff Hartung, Dwayne McDonell, Kevin McDonell and Troy McDonell. A "Tribute to Grandpa" was shared by Blake Morris (eldest grandson) and a "Tribute to Dad" by Bob's children read by Debbie Pearce. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Bob & Cleo's dear friends, Donelda & Martin McDonell, Elaine & Ruben Hartung, Carol & Rodney Welke, Lloyd & Luella Werle and Bob Hartung. The interment took place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery with Bob's beloved grandchildren, Blake Morris, Scott Morris, Kalee Mund, Kyle Mund, Kory Mund, Allison Wiebe, Mandi McDonell, Rylan McDonell, Kristin Hemauer and Justin Hemauer serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Bob's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Palliative Care at Centennial Care Home, Langenburg.
