Obituary of Stella Gromnisky

GROMNISKY - Mrs. Stella Gromnisky wife of the late John Gromnisky of the Norquay Nursing Home, formerly of Yorkton and Stenen passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Stella Elaine Gromnisky was born on January 24, 1922, to Wasyl and Anastasia (Yuzwak) Romanow on a farm north of Stenen, Saskatchewan. She and her twin sister Marie were the youngest of five children. Stella attended Gold Bank School, took her high school by correspondence and attended Normal School where she obtained her teaching certificate. Stella taught at various locations in Saskatchewan including her home school, Gold Bank. Stella married John Gromnisky on October 22, 1949. Soon afterwards they moved to Ormside, north of Stenen where she taught school. John and Stella moved to Hyas in 1955 where she continued teaching until her retirement in January of 1977. Stella and John moved to Yorkton in 1977 to begin enjoying their retirement. After John passed away in March of 2008, Stella continued to live in the house but found it too difficult and relocated to the Norquay Nursing Home in November where she lived until her passing on July 13, 2010. Stella loved gardening and growing flowers around their house during the summer. During the winter she enjoyed curling, bowling and decorating their home and yard for the Christmas season. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2008, her father Wasyl in 1969, her mother Anastasia in 1982, her twin sister Marie in 1981, her brother Vladmir (Laddie) in 1982, a sister Sophia in 1989 and a brother Steve in infancy. Stella will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Westview United Church in Yorkton. Funeral Services were held on Friday, July 16, 2010 from Westview United Church with Faye L. Greer officiating. The organist, Laureen Jemieff led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'In The Garden' and 'In The Bulb There is a Flower'. Interment followed in Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Glen Tymiak, Bert Yagelniski, Jerett Romanow, Colin Romanow, Aaron Chicilo and Dwayne Usselman serving as the casketbearers. Memorials in Stella's memory may be made to Westview United Church Memorial Fund or to the Norquay Health Centre as gifts of remembrance.
