Obituary of Mary Gulka
GULKA - Mary Gulka was born on October 18, 1914 in the Insinger district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Samuel and Annie (nee Ostapovich) Kreklewetz. She was raised on the family farm and attended schools at Kandahar and Wynyard. Mary then took her teacher training at the Saskatoon Normal School. In 1939 she was united in marriage to William Gulka at South Porcupine, Ontario. Mary taught at schools in South Porcupine and Elliott Lake, Ontario and at Insinger, Loyal School, and Esterhazy in Saskatchewan. She was extremely proud of her pupils and always enjoyed being in their company. Mary maintained she had chosen the perfect occupation for herself. While residing in Esterhazy, she was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Esterhazy Legion, being a life member of both organizations. Mary had resided in Yorkton for the past sixteen years. Her hobbies included knitting, embroidery, reading, visiting the elderly at the care home and hospital and playing bridge. Following a time of failing health, Mary passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Saturday, August 7, 2010. She was 95 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Bill in 1980; her parents; brothers William, Alex, Victor and Don Kreklewetz, and sisters Victoria Kreklewetz and Adele Windjack. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Barbara Draper of Yorkton; granddaughters: Dawn Draper (Don Bates) of Saskatoon, Cindy Draper of Saskatoon, and Debra Draper (Pat Sommervill) of Saskatoon; great grandchildren: Aaron, Graham, Kelly (Krystal), Kelsey and Jonas. Also sisters Johanna Scott of Logan Lake, BC, and Patricia Jardine of Calgary; numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. The interment took place in the family plot at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dawn Draper as the urnbearer. The funeral service was held at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. Candle-lighters were Graham, Kelsey and Jonas. Two taped hymns were played, 'Amazing Grace' and "I Will Remember You'. A reception followed in the Family Centre Reception Room. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
