Obituary of Nellie Kopan
Mrs. Nellie Kopan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on August 14, 2010 - three weeks short of her 98th birthday. She was the daughter of Matay and Maria (nee Patranyck) Daciw. She grew up on the Insinger family farm working closely with the rest of the family. Nellie was married to John Kopan on October 11, 1936. The couple resided in Insinger from 1936 to 1945. They moved to Theodore in 1945 and both began working for the Theodore Union Hospital where she worked until she retired. In 1996 Nellie and John moved to Yorkton and lived in Fisher Court where they gained many friends and enjoyed participating in games and activities. Nellie repeatedly talked about her love and passion for this time in her life. Nellie was predeceased by her husband John; parents Matay and Maria; four sisters Anne, Jessie, Pat and Sister Teklia; and two brothers Matt and Bill. Nellie is survived by her two children Myrt (Don) of Yorkton, SK and Richard (Nordie) of Delaware, USA. She is also survived by loving grandchildren: Bonnie (Marty), Kevin (Elizabeth), Terrilynn (Jason), Jason (Trish), Jackie (Josh) and 10 great grandchildren. Nellie Kopan will be fondly remembered for her hospitality, her caring ways and her willingness to help others, never putting her needs first. Prayers were held on Tuesday, August 17th and the Requiem Divine Liturgy on Wednesday, August 18th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Very Rev. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. Serving as the crossbearers was Jackie Harms and as the candlebearers were Terrilynn Sawitsky & Meagan Derbowka. The epistle reader was Bonnie Walhin. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kevin Derbowka, Brendan Derbowka, Riley Derbowka, Josh Harms, Jason Kopan and Emil Sebulski serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Nellie's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or St. Mary Building Fund. Condolences to the family may be forwarded to baileysfuneralhome@sasktel.net Vichnaya Pamyat!
