Obituary of Bernie Mandziak

MANDZIAK - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernie Metro Mandziak of Hubbard who entered his eternal rest suddenly with family at his side on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. He was 75 years of age. Bernie was born on January 27, 1935 to Metro and Rose Mandziak in the Hubbard district of Saskatchewan. He received his education at Tarnoville School approximately one mile from home. After receiving his education he worked on Telegraphs with the CNR. On June 10, 1961 Bernie was united in marriage to Blanche Swininko at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna and were blessed with four children. The couple resided in Regina where Bernie worked in maintenance at IPSCO. In 1966 the couple left Regina and took over Bernie's parent's farm where he continued to farm with his wife and children. He served as Councilor of the RM of Tullymet from 1972-1975. Bernie was a man of simple pleasure. He enjoyed long hours of hard work, with his family by his side. Bernie lived for the fruits of the land and settled down in the evening listening to good old Ukrainian music. Predeceased by his parents, Metro and Rose; brothers Emil and Nestor; sister Steffie and brothers-in-law Tony Petrichuk and John Didyk. Bernie leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Blanche; daughters Michaeline (Rob) Fraser of Regina and Cheryl Mandziak of Regina; sons Lyle Mandziak of Nanaimo, BC and Neil (Shannon) Mandziak of Regina; grandchildren Shawn (Nicki), Evan, Chelsey, Kyle and Ryan; great grandson Jordan; sisters Adeline, Emma (Howard) Dalpe and Maureen; brother Julian (Vienna); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. from Exaltation Of The Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church at Hubbard, Saskatchewan. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Exaltation Of The Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Fr. Boris Kyba C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The crossbearer was Randy Mandziak and the sacristan was Willy Zenkewich. Honorary bearers were everyone who knew Bernie. The interment followed in the Holy Cross Parish Cemetery with Shawn Mandziak, Evan Mandziak, Dale Mandziak, Rob Fraser, Terry Petrichuk and Jordan Stuckey as the casketbearers.
