Obituary of Helen Kowbel
KOWBEL - Helen Elizabeth Kowbel of Melville, Saskatchewan entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville at the age of 86 years. Helen was born on June 23, 1924 in the Goodeve district of Saskatchewan. She was a daughter of Karl and Mary (nee Turchak) Bancarz. When Helen was a few years old the family left Goodeve area and moved to the Plainview district. Helen received her education at the Happy Center School and helped her parents on the farm. After her schooling, Helen went to work at St. Peter's Hospital as a Nurses Aid for a while then worked at Chows Café. On June 25, 1947 Helen was united in marriage to John Kowbel at St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville. The couple resided in Melville where John worked on the C.N.R. and Helen remained at home to look after their two children. While looking after the children Helen took in boarders and later her parents came to stay with them. Helen enjoyed sewing and sewed many wedding dresses for new brides. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, travelling and arranging flowers. Helen's most enjoyment was having her family for a visit, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Rosary Sodality for over 50 years! Also St. Peter's Hospital auxiliary, Senior Citizens and an active member of St Henry's Church. Predeceased by her husband John, her parents Karl and Mary, brothers Steve, Sam, and Stanley and sisters Frances and Angela Bancarz, Anne Smith, Mary Bernath and Katie Batt. Helen leaves to cherish her memory: Son Robert (Brenda) Kowbel of Melville and their children Sara (Murray) Schultz of Moose Jaw, Jessica (John Ivanochko) Kowbel, Moose Jaw and Kristle (Josh) Dumalski, Regina. Daughter Diane (Barry Connery) Kowbel of Regina and Diane's children Donn (Donna) Kowbel, Kaiden and Nicholas, Stony Plain, AB and Mike (Shannon) Kowbel, Brooklyn and Tanner, Kronau, one sister, Josie Czakler of Yorkton: as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers Services were held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Antoni Degutis O.M.I. as the Celebrant. Lottie Wihak and Marilyn Morin did the readings and Marilyn Morin did the intercessions. Eucharistic Minister was Rosallie Woloschuk. Organist Yvette Beutel led in the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Blest Are They", "Immaculate Mary" and "On Eagles Wings". Honor guard were members of the Rosary Sodality. Honorary bearers were everyone who knew and loved Helen. The interment followed in the St. Henry's Parish Cemetery with Josh Dumalski, Mike Kowbel, Sara Schultz, Jessica Kowbel, Kristle Dumalski and Murray Schultz as the casketbearers.
