Obituary of Sadie Klingman

KLINGMAN - Mrs. Sadie Klingman wife of the late Cecil Klingman of the Yorkton District Nursing Home formerly of Rhein and the Stornoway district passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the age of ninety-six years. Sadie Klingman was born on June 14, 1914 to Todor (Ted) and Annie Philipchuk (Matechuk). Sadie received her education at New Canadian School. Following her schooling she worked as a domestic helper in various homes in the area and often she walked 5-6 miles to these homes. On Nov. 20 1933 she was married to Cecil Klingman and they farmed north of Stornoway until 1985 when they retired to Rhein. Sadie always volunteered and helped at various events and activities in the community. Sadie was a long time member of the local Red Cross Organization of Stornoway and Rhein at which time she helped out at bazaars and bake sales by sewing many aprons, baking goodies and also helping with the quilting bees. She also helped out with bingo's held at the Nursing Home - which she then attended when a resident of same. She greatly enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, especially roses. The shelves always had many kinds of preserves and the freezer was always full. Nobody ever left Sadie's table hungry. Sadie enjoyed sports, both as a participant and spectator, especially Baseball and the Blue Jays were the greatest team in her eyes. She also was an avid curler for many years. She had the honour of curling with a team that scored a eight ender at a bonspiel in Kamsack. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spent much time reading. In 2002 Sadie moved to Fairview Arms until March 2009 and because of failing health she became part of the family at Orkney House where she passed away peacefully on Sunday March 20, 2011. She was 96 years of age. Sadie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose hearts she touched. Sadie was predeceased by her husband Cecil in 1991, daughter, Dorothy (Calvin) Milgaard and son in law, Paul Hovrisko; sisters Effie, Mary, Joyce, brothers Ted, John, Bill and sister-in-law Ann, brother-in-law Norman Jorgenson; niece Sharon Gregory. She is survived by two daughters Jean Hovrisko of Langenburg; Joyce (Jack) Burkell of Tonkin, and five grandchildren: Bradley, and Wesley (Sheryl) Milgaard; Michelle (Kade) Klimchuk, Marlin (Melodie Totton) Hovrisko, Scott (Mandie) Burkell; eight great grandchildren: Christian and Nolan Milgaard, Morgan and Jayme Klimchuk; Alexa Hovrisko; Kaitlyn, Landon and Macy Burkell; three sisters, Marge (Dave) Kinjerski, Martha Jorgenson, Josephine (Mike) Latoski; one brother in law, Bill Gregory as well numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Certified Celebrant, Crystal Bailey officiating. A tribute and words of remembrance was given by granddaughter, Michelle Klimchuk. Vocalists, Joanne Klimchuk and Sandie Solonenko sang the musical selections ‘Snowbird' and ‘Amazing Grace'. Honorary Pallbearers were all those in attendance. Interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Sadie's grandchildren, Bradley Milgaard, Wesley (Sheryl) Milgaard, Michelle Klimchuk, Scott (Mandie) Burkell and Marlin Hovrisko serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Sadie may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the Yorkton District Nursing Home towards equipment for the Activity Department.
