Obituary of Anne Broda

BRODA - Anne Broda (Slobodzian) was born on October 14, 1927 in the Grayson District of SK., a daughter to Frederick and Rosalia (nee Zalakockij) Slobodzian. Anne resided and received her schooling at Grayson. On February 8, 1944 Anne was united in marriage to John Broda at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Grayson. The couple started farming on rented land then purchased their own farm in the Wallacetown District south of Melville. As all farm wives did Anne did farm chores and had a large garden which produced vegetables for freezing and canning. She picked berries for fruit and pies. She baked awesome bread and doughnuts for her family. Anne had 10 children but still she made room to take in Foster Children. She was involved in the activities of the Wallacetown Community. She became a leader in the Killaly 4-H Club and was a member of the Killaly Curling Club. As her children grew up and left home, she needed something to occupy her time so she took on a part time job working for Stats Canada, which she found very rewarding. Anne was dedicated to her family, friends, and community. She cared for her father until his passing. In 1983 John & Anne retired from farming and moved to a apartment in Melville and later bought the house on main street. After spending many years of driving to Crooked Lake on Sundays for relaxation they bought a cabin at Indian Point. The Cabin became a gathering place for the family. Weekends the yard would fill up with grandchildren, and adults. A great deal of fun was enjoyed at the cabin. Everyone enjoyed sitting by the fire at night; the adults just talking and the children running around and having fun. Anne welcomed everyone and accepted them as they were. Anne was a faithful member of St. Henry's R.C. Church, served on St. Henry's Parish Council, CWL member, secretary for the Melville Seniors Club, and volunteered at St. Paul Lutheran Home. In 1990 when Melville hosted the Saskatchewan winter games she volunteered her time and when the Senior Games were hosted here she also volunteered. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Anne's Grandchildren were very special to her she even created a special day called Perogy Friday which happened every Friday. She would make perogies and invite any grandchildren, family members and friends for perogy lunch. She also loved watching her grandchildren play ball, hockey, ringette, speedskating and any other activities they participated in. In 2007 John & Anne moved to Melville Legion Manor and due to failing health Anne moved to St. Paul Lutheran Home in January 2008. Anne entered her eternal rest on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Home at the age of 83 years.
