Obituary of Sam Yaremovich
YAREMOVICH - Mr. Samuel (Sam) J. Yaremovich passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 8:20 a.m. He was 91 years of age. Samuel was born September 24, 1919 at Hafford, Saskatchewan. He attended Roseberry & Nauka Schools and Hafford High School. In the 1930's Sam helped his parents with farming. On July 14, 1940 he was united in marriage to Anne at Hafford, Saskatchewan. He bought a ½ section of land from HB Co. at Cando, Saskatchewan which he farmed. In November, 1945 Sam and Anne moved to Yorkton where he established a General Insurance Business, namely Yorkton Broadway Agencies. He was appointed a Notary Public for Saskatchewan. In 1959 he expanded his business to include Real Estate. Sam maintained his business for 55 years until he retired at age 80 years. Sam was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was involved with the construction of St. Mary's Parish Hall and St. Mary's Cultural Centre. He was a long time member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood being elevated to Sir Knight of the Order of St. Volodymyr. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council and Sir Knight of Brother Stanislaus Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Sam was also a founding member of the Ukrainian Professional Businessman's Association, a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Lion's Club and UCT. He also held positions with both Yorkton & District and the Provincial Real Estate Associations and organized Good Spirit Provincial Park Cabin Owner's Association. He enjoyed his leisure activities included fishing, gardening and his pet cat "Mickey". He was able to reside at his home until recently when his health deteriorated. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherina (Calyn); his wife Anne (2005); grandchild Jamie and great grandchild Andrew; his brother Dick; his sisters Mary Small, Ann Stakiw, Rose Kostynuik, Alice Spichko and Elsie Shedlosky. He leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Lillian (Roy) Leitch and Robert (Sherrill) Yaremovich; seven grandchildren, Wayne (Joanne) Leitch, Lana Leitch (Adam Flood), Elizabeth (Korry Wosminity), Matthew (Karla), Jennifer (Dean) Ronn, Carolyn Antoniadis, Michael (Lindee Yanke); seven great grandchildren, Kayley, Ivy, Victoria, Maria Paula, Jayden, Madison and Joshua. He is survived by two brothers Anton of Edmonton, AB and William of Ryley, AB and Doris Michalenko of Saskatoon, SK; brothers-in-law William Sawyshyn (Sylvia) of Hafford, SK and Marvin Sawyer (Joyce) of Arizona and a sister-in-law Mary Sawyshyn of White Rock, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were held on Friday, April 1st at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary led by Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and Knights of Columbus members preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated Saturday, April 2nd at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the celebrant . The responses were led by Colette Karapita, Ed Pindus and Parish Choir Members. The epistle reader was Robert Yaremovich. Members of Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and Knights of Columbus participated in an honour guard and also served as cross bear and casket bearers. Named as honourary casket bearers were Anton Yaremovich, William Sawyshyn, Glen Tymiak, William Yaremovich, Marvin Sawyer and Walter Lukey. The interment took place in Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials in memory of Sam may be made to Telemiracle 35. The family would like to thank his home care girls, Lovella, Monica, Louise, Brenda and Pat as well as the staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre who took such wonderful care of Sam during his stay. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
