Obituary of Eva Winnitowy
WINNITOWY - Mrs. Eva Winnitowy of Yorkton, widow of Michael Winnitowy entered eternal life on June 30, 2011 at the Canora Hospital. She was 95 years of age. Eva was born on September 15, 1915, a daughter of John and Annie (nee Pyzak) Pacholko. She was the 7th child of 13, raised on the family farm in the Willowbrook district. Following her education, Eva moved to Yorkton. She was employed at the Boston Café, Zellers and at Deer Park Golf Course. On February 18, 1940, Eva was united in marriage to Michael Winnitowy at St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Patricia and Gladys. In 1974, Eva joined her husband, Michael at the Kinsmen Arena in Yorkton where he was manager. Her pleasure was by working and being with people. She had a kind and friendly nature and touched the hearts and minds of all who knew her. In 1993 she moved to Queen Elizabeth Court which proved to be a family home to her. Eva enjoyed travelling and all types of sports. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Eva was a hard worker who loved baking and cooking. Her specialty was making perogies. Her door was always open and no one left her home hungry. Eva was predeceased by her parents; husband Michael in 1999; sisters Annie Zulyniak, Mary Blischak, Katie Karapita, Nellie Sturtz; brothers Bill, John, Mike and Peter Pacholko. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Pat (Ernie) Bratyna of Calgary and Gladys (Bart) Gray of Yorkton; step sisters Julia Hardy and Rose Sass; step brothers Fred and Joe Pacholko; sister-in-law Mary Kozak and brother-in-law Bill (Jean) Winnitowy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, July 6th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The Holy Rosary led by UCWLC members preceded the Liturgy. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and Parish Choir Members. The epistle reader was Minnie Kuspira and the cross bearer was John Pacholka. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Knights of Columbus members, Steve Popowich, Dave Spelay, Greg Sturtz, Myron Kulasa, Ed McLashen and Andy Mathuik serving as the casket bearers.
