Obituary of Dan Stychyshyn
STYCHYSHYN-Mr. Dan Stychyshyn of Yorkton, beloved husband of Katherine Stychyshyn passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Health Centre to be with his Heavenly Lord and Creator July 03, 2011. Born on April 8, 1937 in Kobzar Saskatchewan, he was the son of Karl and Anne Stychyshyn. He helped out with the family farm until the age of 18 and then moved B.C. He gained employment with CP Railroad, and met Katherine up in Nelson in 1960. Then they were married July 08, 1961 they lived in Penticton, Summerland B.C. moved back to Kobzar in 1963 back to Summerland in 1964. In 1965 Dan attended college in Saskatoon and received his Certified Nursing Assistant degree. August of 65 he gained employment at the Yorkton Union Hospital. During his career he served 18 years of nursing, and 13.5 years maintenance. Dan had a strong work ethic and was always ready to add a helping hand, when younger he played ball and curled and took up golfing on retirement. Dan took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, gardening and fishing or socializing at his favourite place the cabin (Grandpa's Lake).He found the perfect spot and cleared the land by hand and built the little cabin by himself. He unofficially became Mayor of Canora Beach and (Fire King). He had many loves such as animals especially dogs, painting, woodworking but one of his strongest loves was to farm. His dream came true when he got to run combine with his Son-in-Law Greg and helped with harvest. He enjoyed strumming guitar, blowing on the harmonica or pumping on an accordion and dancing a polka. He was an active volunteer at the Lakeside Manor Care Home and he will be sadly missed by staff and residents. Everyone is to consider themselves as Honorary Pallbearers. Active Pallbearers are Danny's Nephews: Arnold Huska, Paul Lylyk, Ken Lylyk, Lawrence Lylyk, Corey Lylyk and Rick Peterson. Dan was predeceased by Brother Dmetro, Father Karl Stychyshyn, Mother Anne Stychyshyn (nee Hrabarchuk),Brother-in-Law Bill Lylyk, Nephew Dave Gilmore, Mother-in-Law Valma Jacques. He leaves to cherish his memory,his loving Wife Katherine Stychyshyn (nee Jacques), Daughters Dana Datema (Greg), Brenda Ashley (Peter), and Annette Quan (Arthur). Granddaughter 's Jennifer Young, Jana Young (Steven) and Tessa Datema and a Great grandson Hudson Chernipeski. Brother, Mike Stychyshyn, Sisters Ida Dunetz (Bill), Elsie Lylyk, Violet Huska (Walter), Brother, Metro Stychyshyn. Sisters-in-Law Karen Gilmore (Don) and Janette Senger (Buddy), several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and many Good Friends and Neighbours. REMEMBERED FOREVER! The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, July 7th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Walter Farquharson of the United Church of Canada officiating. The organist, Ruth Datema and hymn leader, Linda Cross led in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "In The Garden", "In The Bulb There is a Flower" and "This is God's Wonderous World". Everyone present at the service were considered honorary pallbearers. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Paul Lylyk, Arnold Huska, Ken Lylyk, Rick Peterson, Lawrence Lylyk and Cory Lylyk serving as the casket bearers.
