Obituary of Kay Berezowski

BEREZOWSKI - Kay entered eternal rest on October 18, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 94 years with her immediate family at her side. Kay was born on April 10, 1917 to George and Bella Kuprowski (Zazelanchuk) and was raised on the family farm south of Sheho, SK. On October 24, 1936, Kay married Matt Berezowski and they farmed south of Sheho and raised three children. After moving to Yorkton in 1956, Kay worked outside of the home for brief periods of time but her main passion was spending time with her children and working in her garden, harvesting the fruits of her labour in the fall. Kay lived an active life through all her years, playing cards with her husband and other couples, sometime into the late evening hours. Kay had many friends as well as her daughter who lived in Yorkton with whom she enjoyed meeting for coffee several times a week. Kay spent the last six months of her life living at Aspen Bluffs in Yorkton where she enjoyed making new friends. Kay was predeceased by her husband Matt, her parents, George and Bella Kuprowski, her brothers Bill and John Kuprowski, her sister Mary Woroshelo and son-in-law Alex Holowaty. She leaves to recall her memory, her children: Eugene (Pauline) Berezowski of Calgary, Evelyn Holowaty of Yorkton and Beverly (Rick) Shatosky of Calgary, along with her grandchildren Gail (Parry) Faye, Les (Helen) Berezowski, Kendra (Glenn) Wotton and Kelly (Brandy) Budd. Kay was also blessed by seven great grandchildren, Alexandra Faye, Michaela and Simon Berezowski, Nathan and Blake Wotton and Hayden and Hudson Budd. She will also be remembered by her sisters: Elsie Maleschuk of Wadena, Lily Holowaty of Saskatoon, Verna (Ole) Kereluik of Winnipeg, Joanne DeLorm of Calgary and Olga Peterson of Edmonton along with other friends and relatives. Kay always felt laughter was a recipe for a happy life. All who knew her appreciated her sense of humor. Prayers were held on Thursday evening, October 20, 2011 and the funeral service was held on Friday morning, October 21, 2011, all from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiated. Cantor, Gerald Yaholnitsky, assisted by members of the Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Ed Berezowski. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kelly Budd, Les Berezowski, Rick Shatosky, Glenn Wotton, Clint Holowaty and Eugene Maleschuk serving as the casketbearers.
