Obituary of Colleen McGregor
McGREGOR - Colleen passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 55 years of age. Colleen was born on September 21, 1956 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Mary Lou (nee Harrell) and David Kennedy. She was raised in Saskatoon and received her schooling there, graduating from Bedford Road High School. On August 26th, 1978 she was united in marriage to Gerald McGregor. As a young women Colleen tried her hand at a variety of vocations: she worked for a time as the recreation director at the Elmwood Lodge in Saskatoon; she tried the Hotel industry for a couple of years; she was the recreation director of the Anderson Lodge in Yorkton for a time; and for many years was a teacher aid at St. Mary's, Yorkdale, and Columbia Schools. Her quest for new experiences led her to become a lay-minister, and for a time had served the Ituna-Kelliher United Church district. Colleen also recognized, respected and studied aboriginal ways and customs in later years. Colleen had a deep appreciation for many different forms of music, music possessed great therapeutic value. For the past few years, as her health permitted, Colleen gave of her time doing community volunteer work. Colleen's engaging personality endeared her to many and she made friends easily, but nothing was more special than spending time with her family as all family gatherings had special meaning for her. Predeceased by her father David; she leaves to cherish her memory her husband Gerald; sons: Shane (Laurie) of Saskatoon; and Tory of Regina; her mother, Mary Lou Kennedy of Yorkton. Also her brother Colin (Regina) of Saskatoon; and her sister Shelley in BC; as well as her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Jared Miller of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Scripture was read by family friend, Jackie Sedley, and Ray Sedley sang 'Get Together' on guitar. Alleluia by KD Lang was also played. Urn bearers were sons Shane and Tory.
