Obituary of Matt Rusnak

RUSNAK - Mr. Matt Rusnak of Melfort and formerly of Yorkton and the Theodore district passed away March 22, 2012 at Parkland Place in Melfort. He was 77 years of age. Matt was born at home on October 16, 1934 north east of Fitzmaurice in the Caldervale School District. Matt was the youngest son of George and Irene (nee Lysak) Rusnak. Completing his public education at Caldervale School Matt began farming with his parents; staying true to the culture that embraced the youngest boy continuing the family farm. In 1953 Matt married Jean Sernowski; in following years four children completed their family. In the 60's local farm community was vibrant; Matt enjoyed visiting neighbors, community dances and playing cards. Matt worked off the farm in construction of housing at Orcadia Radar Base, plumber in Yorkton, cabinet making in Winnipeg and maintenance at Theodore Hospital. Matt discontinued farming in 1983 and looked after apartments till his heart attack and stroke in 2001. Matt never learned to relax, he was always busy and time for his enjoyments of gardening, fishing, and travel were second to work; gardening prevailed as it required dedication and work. Matt always enjoyed watching sports and after 2001 it became his life, especially the Blue Jays, Saskatchewan Roughriders and curling. He especially enjoyed the past year debating the outcomes with his grandson Andrew. Matt was predeceased by his parents, son; Terry and daughter in law Shirley, Grandchildren; Teresa, Tascha, Dartagan and Glenn, siblings; Eva, Lillian, John and Bill. He leaves to cherish his memory, children; Sonya de Haan, (Jason) and grandchildren Andrew and Jennifer, Darcy (Rhonda Bone) and grandchildren Adam and Nick, Brian (Yvonne) and grandchildren; Dallas (Carla), their children Payton and Zane; Shiona (Brad), their daughters Shaeley and Kaylee, Jean; mother of their children, sisters; Kay Baranesky and Mary (Dan) Ottenbreit. A Memorial Prayer Service was held on Friday, March 23rd at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Richard Gibson officiating. The hymns included in the service were Matt's special selections. The interment took place in the family section at Theodore Town Cemetery with Dallas Rusnak, Adam Rusnak, Jason de Haan, Andrew de Haan, Brad Buckshaw and Ernest Thiessen serving as the casket bearers.
