Obituary of Annie Boychuk
BOYCHUK - Mrs. Annie Boychuk of Yorkton passed away peacefully with her family at her side on June 12, 2012 at the Yorkton Union Hospital. She was 86 years of age. Annie was born on May 5th 1926 in the Buchanan district, the oldest daughter of Michael and Josephine (nee Chicilo) Tuchivsky. She was raised on the family farm and attended Vasalowitz School. On November 11, 1946 she was united in marriage to Steve Boychuk at the St Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora. Along with her husband Steve they farmed in the Wroxton district until 1962 before purchasing farmland in the Tonkin district. Annie had a deep inner faith and was committed to her religion. She was an active member of St Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and also of UCWL Branch # 1 where she received a pin for serving 25 years. Annie liked to do gardening, crocheting, knitting and was known for her tasty cabbage rolls at family gatherings. Baba was known as the "Ukrainian Santa Claus" to her grandsons Jason and Trevor because she enjoyed baking cookies, muffins and scuffles for them. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: her son Lloyd, her daughter Shirley (Bill) O'Boyle, grandsons Jason and Trevor (Linda); sisters: Helen (Steve) Olynick, Janet (Gino) Astolfi; a sister-in law Anne Tuchivsky and brothers: Laddie Tuchivsky and Michael (Darlene) Tuchivsky as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Annie was predeceased by her husband Steve in 2008; mother in 1930, her father in 1963, a brother in infancy, her brother Anton in 1933, brother John 1972, brother Steve 1996, brother Frank 2006; and her sister Mary 1991. Prayers were held on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Holy Rosary led by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, June 18th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. The epistle reader was Jason O'Boyle. The UCWLC was represented by Mary Lazurko who carried the branch flag. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Don Bahrey, Jeff Bahrey, Ken Clancy, Michael Serby, Bill Rudnisky and Dave Dubnyk serving as the casket bearers.
