Obituary of Melville Franklin

FRANKLIN - Melville Lorne Franklin passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2012 at the Regina Pasqua Hospital surrounded by his family. Mel was born in Kamsack, SK where he spent many years farming and raising his children. This was his true passion in life. Mel was a man of many skills and talents, there was nothing he could not fix. He later moved to Regina, where he owned and operated two Sangster's Health Food Franchises. Before he became ill and retired, Mel worked at CO-OP, which he enjoyed as it allowed him to combine his love for agriculture and his ability to connect with and help people. Many happy times were spent with his family creating memories they will cherish forever in their hearts. Mel leaves behind his daughter Tammy (Rob) Popoff; sons Colin (Lana) Franklin, and Darren Franklin; grandchildren Brett & Madison Franklin; special pal Mr. Bojangles. Also left to mourn are his wife Shirley, her four children: Shamus, Shane, Chad & David Stewart and their families. Also a sister, Pat Austin, and a brother, Bob (Josephine) Franklin; numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Mel was predeceased by his wife Janice in 1982; parents Alma & Jim Franklin; and by a brother-in-law, Robert Austin. The funeral service was held on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, highway #10 east, Yorkton, with Rev. Delta Kelly officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'How Great Thou Art', and 'One Day at a Time'. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Matthew with son Darren serving as the urn bearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
