DALSHAUG - Muriel Dalshaug, beloved wife of Clint Dalshaug of Saskatoon, formerly of Yorkton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the transitional care unit at the Saskatoon City Hospital on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. She was 87 years of age. Muriel Elizabeth Cavell Dalshaug was born on September 20, 1925 on her parent's farm- Sec.6,TP27,RGE5,W3Rd in the Loreburn district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Alfred Roy and Florence Edna (nee Vaughan) McLelland. She was raised on the family farm and attended grades 1 & 2 at the Wildon School. In 1933 the family moved to the Margo district, where Muriel attended Olivet School grades 3- 8 and then the Margo School until grade 12. Muriel then attended Normal School in Saskatoon in 1944 but because of the shortage of teachers she went to teach at her first school at Bachelor. She then received her teaching certificate the following year. She then went on to teach at Mistatim until 1946, when she moved back to the Margo district, where she began teaching at Ross School. On July 18, 1947 she was united in marriage to Clint Dalshaug at Margo. The couple resided in Flin Flon for a year and a half before returning to the Margo district to farm. For the next 10 years, Clint and Muriel farmed, Muriel also taught during these years at Bear Lake, Sasmin and Margo. In 1959 the family moved to North Battleford they resided for five years before moving to Yorkton in 1964. Muriel taught in North Battleford and also in Yorkton, retiring in 1981. Muriel and Clinton moved to Saskatoon in December of 2010. As a young woman Muriel enjoyed track and field and playing ball. Later she enjoyed curling then picked up bowling as a favourite pastime. She along with Mildred Baldwin was responsible for setting up the STS (Superannuated Teachers Association) bowling league in Yorkton. As well as participating, Muriel enjoyed watching sports particularly football and her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. She was also active in various organizations: the Yorkton Superannuated Teachers Association, the Yorkton Fair Board Auxiliary and as an interpreter at the Western Development Museum. She took an active role in the Church of the Nazarene as Superintendent of the Sunday School as well as a teacher and later as president of the senior's group. Muriel had a scheduled knee surgery in May of 2012 and remained in hospital until her passing.. Predeceased by her parents, Alfred & Florence McLelland; father and mother-in-law, Plamer and Lillian Dalshaug; her sister-in-law, Norma Dalshaug; brother-in-law John Kleppe; and by two brothers, Elmer and William McLelland. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Clinton; sons, Brian Clinton (Ginny) Dalshaug of Monarch, AB; Dwayne Eon (Sharon) Dalshaug of Regina; Bruce Elgin (Sandra) Dalshaug of Edmonton; grandchildren: Christopher (Carey) Dalshaug; Adam (Melissa) Dalshaug; Noelle Karen (Jon) Piska; Justin Palmer (Bobby) Dalshaug; and Christine Marie (Greg) Potts; great grandchildren: Addison and Ava Dalshaug; Jarett and Kyle Piska; Emma and Jaxon Dalshaug; and Gavin and Jade Potts. Sisters Eunice Kleppe of Saskatoon, Patricia (John) Olynik of Moose Jaw, and Elizabeth (John) Craigen of Moose Jaw; one brother Elgin (Agnes) McLelland of Yorkton; sister-in-law, Hazel (Bernie) Eliason of Saskatoon; sister-in-law, Pauline McLelland of Saskatoon; brother-in- law, Bruce Dalshaug of North Battleford; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. Funeral services took place in Saskatoon on Friday, November 9, 2012 from Park Funeral Chapel, and on Saturday, November 10th from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, Yorkton. Rev. Richard Gibson officiated. Muriel's son Bruce gave the eulogy. The hymns for the service were 'The Old Rugged Cross' and 'When the Roll is Called Up Yonder'. Soloist, Amanda Buhler, with accompanyment by Kathleen Gibson, sang 'He Giveth More Grace'. Pallbearers were Justin, Christopher & Adam Dalshaug, Greg Potts and Jon Piska. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories with Noelle Piska and Christine Potts as the urnbearers. Condolences may be sent to baileysfuneralhome@sasktel.net .
