Obituary of Lucas Yanko

YANKO - Lucas Yanko beloved brother of Stella and William Yanko of the Kelliher district passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Kelliher. He was sixty-five years of age. Lucas Yanko was born on September 25, 1947 in Lestock, Saskatchewan a son of Jack and Annie (nee Hull) Yanko. Lucas grew up on the family farm north of Kelliher where he spent most of his life. He attended New Haven rural school in the district and helped his family on the farm. Lucas later worked at the Yorkton Co-op Poultry Plant, he drove school bus for several years and continued helping on the farm. Lucas eventually took over the family farm. He enjoyed attending auction sales and going for drives in the country seeing the crops in the district. Lucas always liked doing mechanical work and listening to radio programs on Saturday nights. He especially enjoyed visiting his brother's farm where they spent a considerable amount of time helping each other with mechanical, field work and livestock. This past summer, Lucas had sold the family farm with plans of retiring to Yorkton. Lucas was predeceased by his father, Jack in 1975 and his mother Annie in 1985. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, his loving sister and brother, Stella and William as well as numerous cousins. Prayer Services were held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kelliher. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2013 from St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Fr. Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. as the celebrant. Leonard Romanson served as the crossbearer. Interment followed in the Jasmin Cemetery with Barry Karol, Jeffrey Karol, Terry Hull, David Hull, Levi Hull and Bill Millward serving as the casketbearers. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com . Memorials in memory of Lucas may be made to the Jasmin Cemetery Fund as gifts of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home Ituna - Yorkton.
