GULASH - In the cold morning hours of January 12, 2013, Eva Helen Gulash (nee Miskolczi) died peacefully at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Born in Cana, Saskatchewan on December 23, 1924 to Frank & Julia Miskolczi. Eva grew up on the farm with her many brothers & sisters. She loved nothing more than to ride her horses and spoke of them well into her old age. Eva also loved to play the guitar. She often told the story of how she worked very hard to pay for her first guitar. It cost $16, but in the late 1930's that may have well been $16000! She was proud of that accomplishment, so proud in fact, that she had the photo of her and that guitar put on a t-shirt that she wore for many years. On July 4, 1945 Eva married Alex Gulash. They made their first home on a farm in the Otthon district. They had 3 beautiful children - Alfred, Susan and Ken. They relocated to Calgary for a short time and then made their home in Yorkton where except for a brief period of residence in Saskatoon, Eva remained after the death of Alex in 1978. Eva worked hard throughout her life at various jobs. In her early years in Yorkton she worked as a housekeeper at the Shamrock Motel. She then worked as a cook at the Blackstone Hotel, which she absolutely loved. This job led her to employment in a bakery, where she honed her skills as a baker. She completed her career working as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn in Yorkton until her retirement in 1994. During those many years of hard work, she never once complained, a value she has instilled in her children. After her retirement Eva enjoyed the many things she wasn't able to do during the years she was busy working to support herself. She had a love of being creative. Whether it was watching the Food Network and trying to recreate the dishes with her own special twist, dyeing her hair so grey it was a bit purple (with fantastic eyebrows to match), redecorating her apartment many times (which includes painting walls at 75 years old), making some "craft" she saw on TV or in a magazine or just decorating her patio with bird feeders so she could listen to her birds sing. Eva enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash and yodeling every now and then, much to the delight of her great granddaughter. She travelled whenever opportunity knocked. She enjoyed the Calgary Stampede very much. Any chance she had to wear her cowboy hat and bedazzled denim jacket was welcomed. The skills she learned in the bakery were put to good use when she would bake for her family. Hands down, she made the world 's best cinnamon buns, and now that she is gone, there will never be any that compare. Ever. Eva loved her children and her grandchildren more than anything. They were her life. Thus their lives will feel a little emptier without her. "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure" - Author Unknown Eva was predeceased by her husband Alex, her son Alfred, four brothers: Rudy, John, Frank, and Joseph Miskolszi and four sisters: Katie Molnar, Anne Vranai, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hamer and Tessa Draga. She leaves to mourn her daughter Susan (Dennis) Schneider of Calgary and her son Ken (Linda) Gulash of Yorkton. Her grandchildren Tammie (John) Onslow, Tanya (Paul) Pitzner, Dusty Gulash, Shayla Gulash, Landen Gulash, Tanner Gulash, Brenda Gulash, Bradley Gulash. And of course, her great grandchildren: Spencer & Katelyn Onslow, Mallory Pitzner and Mya Gulash.
