Obituary of Don Mervin Baber
A memorial folder from the funeral service may be printed under the "Memories" tab, then click "Memorial Program. Donald Mervin Baber passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 13 on the family farm in Tullymet District, north of Balcarres. Don was the eldest of five children born to Barrett and Mary (Mantik) Baber on August 20, 1936 on the farm north of Lipton. In the 60's they moved to their present farm. Growing up Don was a member of Tullymet Baby Beef 4-H Club. His children followed in 80's and 90's. On August 10, 1974 he married Mary Penner of Pansy, MB. They had four children. Don's life revolved around his cattle and sheep operation which his wife and sons continue to work on today. He loved spending hours talking on the phone with friends across the country. He made multiple 2 or 3 day ‘quick trips' to the Okanagan area of British Columbia since 1975 which many neighbors benefited from. The last trip occurred last fall with Larry for apples, pears, peaches and tomatoes. He made two trips to Prince Edward Island to visit a cattle and sheep producer he had met at Agribition. While there he tried deep sea fishing which convinced him that he preferred the flat land of the prairie. He also travelled to Ontario and made two trips by rail to Churchill to see the grain terminal. In the past few years, Don especially loved to take his grandchildren out to the barn to help with the cattle. Don will always be remembered for the mind of his own and his way of doing things that he had. Most of all we will remember the love that he shared with each of us. Don is predeceased by his parents, Barret and Mary; brother, Wesley and brother-in-law, Lawrence McLaren. Don is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Louise (Dennis) Filarczuk; sons, Larry Baber and Colin Baber (Ashley Taylor); daughter, Colleen (John) Machuik; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jodi, and Jeremy Filarczuk, Nataysha and Carter Machuik; brother, Ervin Baber ; sisters, Irene McLaren - Tesch and Margaret Ann (Marlowe) Smith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A very special thank you to Dr. Saunders and Dr. Linda Nielson, Balcarres EMS, Fire Department and STARS Air Ambulance and to our many friends and neighbors for all of your care and support.
