Obituary of Victor Derbowka

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Victor Wesley Derbowka, husband, father and grandfather on Monday, March 11, 2013 with his family at his side. Victor was born in Yorkton on May 28, 1936, he grew up in Wroxton, Sk with his parents and two sisters, Iris and Sonia. He attended Wroxton Elementary School, then St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, later moved to Kamsack and attended high school where he met and later married his wife Marie Siwicki. They were married on August 27, 1956 at the Wroxton Greek Catholic Church. Victor and Marie resided in Wroxton where he farmed with his dad. Their first son Marty was born on July 8 in Yorkton. They then moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba in 1958 where Victor was employed by the mine. Their second son Bryan was born on March 2 in Flin Flon. Moving to Yorkton in 1961, Victor had various jobs in the community. In 1979, the Derbowka's moved to Biggar, SK where they purchased the Biggar Hotel. With his sons all grown, they worked the family business. Returning to Yorkton in 1985, they purchased the Country Inn formerly known as the Blackstone Hotel, and currently known as the City Limits Inn (CI). Victor was active in all sports. As a young man in Wroxton he curled and played ball with his uncles. His interest in sports continued into his young adult life where he was involved with the Yorkton Molson Canadians Baseball team, the Yorkton Phillies Baseball team and the Wroxton Canadian Fastball team where he was a catcher for his son Bryan. Victor loved to curl, he curled with his cousin Ed Derbowka and his uncles, then later on competively with his boys. He also enjoyed camping, golfing, skiing, ice-fishing, fishing with son Marty, dancing and most of all socializing with his buddies. Victor was predeceased by his parents Ann (nee Swerhun) and William Derbowka. Victor leaves to mourn and celebrate his life, his wife Marie, his two sons: Marty (Lauri) Derbowka of Wroxton, and Bryan (Karyn) Derbowka of Yorkton. Grandchildren: Brennan (Natasha), Lindy, Dillon, Tony, and Tania. His two sisters: Iris Stadnyk from Saskatoon and Sonia (Ed) Koroll from Vernon, BC; as well numerous other family members and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 and the Funeral Service was on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Father Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. The responses were led by Ed Pindus and St. Mary's Choir members. The eulogy was presented by Brennan Derbowka The interment will take place in the Garden of Memories at Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Victor's name may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a Charity of Choice as gifts of remembrance.
