Obituary of Julia Wlock

(The Memorial Folder from the funeral can be printed or viewed under the Memories Tab - Memorial Program) Julia was born September 3, 1920, daughter of Theodore and Mary (nee Kerunsky) Rodych of Beckenham, SK, third eldest of six children. She attended Runnymede school until Grade 6. After that she stayed home to help out on the family farm. On October 10, 1948, Julia was united in marriage to Stanley Wlock and moved to their family farm near Jedburgh. Together they had one son, Carl Stanley and twin daughters, Phyllis Ann and Sylvia Marie. Her life on the farm involved raising her children, keeping a meticulous home, helping with the outside chores, and growing a huge fruit and vegetable garden. Growing flowers was Julia's passion. During their years on the farm, Stanley and Julia attended St. Peter & Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jedburgh, where Julia was actively involved in the UCWL holding the president and secretary positions for a number of years. In 1976 Stanley and Julia retired to Yorkton. In 1977 Julia became a member of St. Mary's UCWL, of which she remained a member of until her passing. Julia's faith was of utmost importance to her and helped her get through many days. Julia was a self-taught seamstress. Her work, however, was of a professional level. She spent countless hours sewing everything from dresses and skirts to jackets, pants, hats, Ukrainian dance costumes to maybe some drapes on the sideline. When times were tough, she was resourceful in designing patterns on brown paper bags that she had taped together. Julia enjoyed cross-stitching articles for the church and crocheting doilies that were always crisply starched. Julia and her friends formed a quilting group, which helped pass many cold winter days and resulted in a hand stitched quilt for each one of her children and grandchildren. Julia continued to mend and alter clothes for her family until only a few years ago. She took pride in her work and her finished product showed it. Julia moved to Clement's Court in 1997. Here she developed many new friendships. Julia loved attending her grandchildren's activities, birthdays and weddings. She spent many evenings on the phone with her extended family, seeing how they were doing. Her great-grandsons brought a new joy to her life in the last 4 years and she looked forward to their frequent visits. She loved her family with all of her heart and never missed an opportunity to tell them so. Julia entered eternal rest on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Julia was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; a daughter, Sylvia Marie in infancy; parents, Theodore & Mary Rodych; an infant sister Stephanie; siblings, Mike, Walter, Rosie & Jean; in-laws, Anton & Maria Wlock; and brothers-in-law, John, Joe, Frank, Walter, Thomas & Felix. Julia leaves to cherish her memory her son Carl (Kari) of Brandon, MB; daughter, Phyllis (Don) Hrywkiw of Canora, SK; grandchildren, Rhonda Wlock of Brandon, MB, Dan (Jillian) Wlock of Yorkton, Karla (Kelly) Semenko of Brandon, MB, Danielle (Brian) Rakochy of Pilot Butte, Devin (Lori) Hrywkiw of Clavet; great-grandsons, CJ & Charles Wlock of Yorkton; brother, Bernie (Mary) of Saskatoon and sisters-in-law Sophie Rodych of Yorkton and Pearl Wlock of Winnipeg, MB, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom, your unconditional love will be cherished and missed.
