KARPINSKI - Mrs. Nellie Karpinski of Yorkton entered eternal on May 12, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 97 years of age. Nellie Sophie Karpinski (nee Keller) was born on September 9, 1915 at Goodeve, Saskatchewan, the 4th child of John and Mary Keller (nee Rever). She was raised on the family farm and attended Bernadine 1 School. Following her education, Nellie ventured to Abernathy, SK where she worked for farmers for 3 years. She then moved back to the family farm and helped her parents. A short time later she met Barney Karpinski and began dating. A year later on October 17, 1937 they were married at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna. Following their marriage Nellie stayed on the farm with her parents while Barney ventured to Abernathy where he worked for a farmer. In 1938 they purchased a quarter of land from Walter Keller and in 1939 built a 2 room log house. The couple were blessed with three sons. Besides raising her family, Nellie kept busy milking cows and cooking meals. She still found time for her huge garden and flowers. Following Barney's death in 1977, Nellie remained on the farm until 1983 when she moved to Queen Elizabeth Court in Yorkton. Nellie was a devout member of St. Gerard's Church and the CWL. Besides her husband Barney, Nellie was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Keller; six brothers and three sisters. Nellie leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life her sons Ted, Allan (Betty) and David (Roxane); five grandchildren Tammy, Allan Jr., Bradley, Tiffany and Colby; three great grandchildren Olivia, Harris and Kasmira; a sister Mary and brother Louis (Rosemarie). The Prayer Vigil was held on Monday, May 20, 2013 and the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 21st , at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The cross bearer was Colby Karpinski. The music was provided by Diana Hornung (Vigil) and Madeline Mandzuk (Funeral). Readings were given by Bradley Karpinski (Vigil) and Tammy Hutt and Tiffany Doskas (Funeral). Members of St. Gerard's Choir led in the singing of the hymns, "Here I Am Lord", Pslam 62, "Holy Mary, Full of Grace", "The Lord's My Shepherd", "Song of Farewell" and "Holy God We Praise Thy Name". The interment followed in the Gardens of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Allan Karpinski Jr., Peter Hutt, Rick Karpinski, Bradley Karpinski, John Doskas and Bryan Dubiel serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Nellie's life may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
