Obituary of John Sikora

John Sikora was born on August 13, 1924 in the Fenwood District of Saskatchewan, a son to Karl and Mary (nee Adolph) Sikora. John received his education at Green Bush School and helped his parents on the family farm. After receiving his education John continued to farm with his father and helped local farmers in the neighborhood. In December 1946 John went to work in McBride, BC at a sawmill and returned home in March 1947. John then rented land from his uncle and started farming on his own as well helping his father on the farm. In 1950 John purchased 2 quarters of land and in 1952 started building a house. On June 28, 1953 John was united in marriage to Elsie Nekuliak at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Fenwood. The couple lived with John's parents for a while and then moved into a grain bin until the house was completed on John's farm he purchased. John and Elsie worked very hard on the farm, growing grain, milking cows, raising livestock and poultry, selling eggs to make a living. John enjoyed gardening, baking cookies, muffins, and spending time out doors. He also loved his many farm pets of several cats and his dog - best friend Korky. John remained on his farm until December of 2012 and was placed in the Ituna and District Pioneer Lodge and on March 19, 2013 was transferred to St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville where he passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his parents Karl and Mary; his wife Elsie in June 1997; sister Audrey Kroetsch in 2002 and son-in-law Alan Robertson May 10, 2013. John leaves his children to cherish his memory; daughter Valerie Robertson; son Arleigh; daughter Lynda (Brian) Wilhelmi; three grandchildren Raymond, Amanda and Katelyn; brother Norman (Rose) Sikora; sisters, Gladys (Harvey) Schmidt, Grace (Herb) Kurtz; and Doris (Floyd) Thunstrom; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
