Obituary of Peter Ross

ROSS - Mr. Peter Ross of Yorkton passed away on June 12, 2013, he was just over a month shy of his 100th birthday. Peter was born July 23rd 1913 in Hubbard SK to Isadore and Alvina Ross. Peter fell in love and was united in marriage to Ida Weber on November 18th 1938 in Hubbard SK. Soon after Peter and Ida moved to Langenburg where they worked on a mixed farm for a year. They then moved to Clemenso where Peter hauled logs for a couple of years and then moved back to Hubbard to work at the trading post for four years. In 1949 they made their home in Yorkton where they raised their family of nine children. Peter worked for Coke and Pepsi for many years and then hauled mail for the Post Office for six years and retired in 1978. Shortly after retirement he purchased a motorhome where he and Ida traveled to B.C. and many lakes in Northern Saskatchewan. He enjoyed camping, fishing and going on many canoe trips. One of Peter's favorite companions on these trips was his dog Champ. In 2012 Peter became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing home where he resided until his passing. Peter leaves to cherish his memory his children Jack Benny (Marge) of Yorkton SK and family, George (Joanne) of Yorkton SK and family, Esther Allan of Chilliwack B.C. and family, Mel (Carol) of Saskatoon and family, Linda (Hugh) Tretiak of Kelowna B.C. and family, Bev Allary (John) of Dysart SK and family, Sandra (Darcy) Pfeifer of Ebenezer SK and family, and daughter-in-law Marge Ross of Yorkton SK and family. Brother Raymond (Betty Lou) Ross of Surrey, B.C., as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife Ida in 2005; daughter Terri Lee, son Gordon and four grandchildren Sheldon, Shauna, Charlie, and Shayne. Prayers were led on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Pastor Fred Schneider officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock led in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace" "How Great Thou Art" and "Little Church in The Wildwood". Peter's Grandchildren, his brother Raymond and All Those Who Shared in His Life were considered honourary bearers. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Chad Ross, Eric Pfeifer, A J Allary, Shelley Wlock, Jana Pfeifer and Gordon Ross serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Peter may be made to St. Paul Church Memorial fund.
