ACHTEMICHUK - Mr. Tony Achtemichuk of Yorkton, beloved husband of Olga passed away on June 15, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, at the age of 88 years. Tony was born at Rhein, Sask., October 22, 1924 to Porphyry (Percy) and Mary Achtemichuk (Machushek), the youngest of eight children, four boys and four girls. He grew up on the farm and attended Kitzman School. Tony idolized one of his teachers, Tony Andrus, and at an early age he set his dreams on becoming a teacher. Upon finishing his High School at Yorkton Collegiate, he attended Teachers College at Moose Jaw & Regina. He lost his mother to cancer when he was only sixteen and his father when he was twenty, while teaching at his first school at Eatonia. While attending summer school classes, he met Olga Byblow, the girl of his dreams. They were married on October 13, 1947 and he was welcomed into the Byblow clan. They taught neighboring schools, Radimno and Jaroslaw, near Yorkton. After several country schools, Lookout and Badgerdale, they moved to Oak Ridges, Ontario for seven years. Returning to Saskatchewan in 1959, he taught in Parkerview, Kitzul, Walkerville and Goodeve. In all the districts he taught, he met many wonderful people who became his lifelong friends. Tony's life was made complete with the birth of his three angels, Adrienne, Dale and Jacquelyn, who were so extra special to him. When the grandchildren and great grandchildren arrived it doubled his pride and happiness. He attended classes during summer holidays and obtained his B.Ed Degree. His teaching career ended at St. Joseph's College in 1980 after 30 years. Tony loved his life's work and his students, and was always so proud of their achievements. After his retirement, he enjoyed his hobby of refinishing furniture. He spent his summers at Good Spirit Lake, fishing and going camping when he wasn't working on his cabins. He took the family on many trips, to the West Coast, east to Toronto and Montreal Expo, and to Las Vegas and Disneyland in the United States. He drove while his girls sang all the hit parade songs. He enjoyed life with his harem of girls. Tony & Olga also flew to London, England for two weeks and took a cruise on the Florida Coast. Life was good and he enjoyed it. Tony was predeceased by his parents, brothers; John (Pearl), Alex and Michael, sisters; Polly (Wasyl) Chorney, Annie (Bill) Achtemichuk and Lena (Fred) Achtemichuk, in-laws, John and Katherine Byblow, his brothers-in-law, Steve (Anne) Byblow, Fred Pawliw, Vince Byblow, sisters-in-law; Adele (Dalton) Collins and Minnie Switzer and nephews, Paul & Stanley Achtemichuk. Tony will be sadly missed by Olga, his wife of 65 years, his daughter Adrienne and John Cherepuschak of Goodeve and their children Jodi Smith (Al) and their children, Jalen and Donnell, Lisa Kuntz (Greg) and their children Kendal, Colton and Emily; Dale and John Rumming of Vancouver Island: Jacquelyn (Hnat) Deriu of Vancouver, and their children Robyn and Mitchell Hnat and Alyssa Deriu and Tony's only surviving sister, Martha Rohatensky in a Nursing Home in Vancouver, his in-laws and many nieces and nephews. A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members led in the singing of the responses. The cross bearer was Jacquelyn (Hnat) Deriu and the epistle reader was Jeann Spilak. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with John Cherepuschak, Eddy Achtemichuk, John Rumming, Ed Spilak, Sergio Deriu and Harvey Byblow serving as the casket bearers.
