It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Mike Heshka, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Mike passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Canora Hospital on April 15, 2022 at the age of 91 years. Mike was born on August 17th, 1930 in the Burgis District to Wasyl (Bill) and Katherine (Kate) (nee Lischynski) Heshka of Gorlitz, Saskatchewan. He received his education at Poplar Springs School and remained at home for several years to assist his parents on the family farm. He ventured to Toronto, Ont. for three winters, from 1951 to 1953, and worked at a lumber yard, and Donwell T.V. Cable. When he returned to Saskatchewan he acquired his land around the Gorlitz area and farmed for many years. While farming, he also worked as a mechanic at several service stations. It was at this time he met Violet Kopeck, and in 1969 they were married. Mike and Violet remained on their farm for a couple of years before taking residence in Canora, SK where Mike worked several jobs including CN Rail, as a mechanic, and in 1972 he started his career with the Town of Canora until his retirement in 1992. Shortly after retiring, Mike decided to continue with his passion for farming and assisted local farmers. He also loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and especially attending to his flowers, and being with his family. Mike and Violet were blessed with three children Leslie, Cindy, and Corey, two stepsons Stanley and Nelson, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. Mike was predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Katherine Heshka, brother Harry, sister Olga, half-brother Steve, and half-sister Rose.
