KACHUR - Mr. Paul Kachur of Yorkton, formerly of Tadmore, beloved husband of the late Lucy Kachur passed away on November 16, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a brief illness. Paul was born on August 29, 1921 in the Amsterdam District, Saskatchewan, the second of 7 children born to Anton and Annie (nee Stelmack) Kachur. He initially attended a rural school known as Gogol School. The Kachur family moved to another farm a few miles east of Tadmore and Paul attended another rural school known as Crystal Lake and then high school in Stenen. The Second World War cut short Paul's high school and after completing Grade 11 he began assisting his parents on the family farm just south of Crystal Lake. In 1942 Paul began farming on his own. On July 17, 1950 Paul was united in marriage to Lucy Marcinko, a farm girl whose family lived across the road, and they continued to farm in the Crystal Lake area. In 1953 Paul and Lucy moved to their new home on an acreage in Tadmore. Their first child, Randy Paul, was born in December, 1953. A second son, Donald Michael, was born in January, 1956. Lucy passed away in March, 2012. Paul was an active member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Tadmore. This was a Church that both Paul's parents and Lucy's parents helped to establish. Both Paul and Lucy did what they could to keep the parish vibrant as long as possible. Paul was elected a Trustee for the Canora School Unit in 1964 and served for the next 14 years, many of which were as Chairman of the Board. He was also a member of the Hamlet Council in Tadmore and a Board Member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Gateway Co-operative in Canora. When Paul wasn't farming or attending meetings, he enjoyed curling in the winter months and fishing during the summer. After Paul down-sized his farming operation in 1978, Lucy and Paul took time to do other things. They travelled to many places in the USA and enjoyed spending the winter months in Las Vegas, San Diego and Yuma. In 2000, Paul and Lucy moved from Tadmore to a home on Stewart Crescent in Yorkton. Paul enjoyed the amenities that Yorkton offered and they no longer had to travel an hour to see their grandchildren. Paul assisted at St. Mary's Parish Cultural Centre and faithfully attended services while his health allowed him to do so. Paul's three grandchildren - Courtney, Liddy and Logan - were a very important part of his life. He travelled many miles and spent many hours watching them participate in various activities. He especially enjoyed taking them fishing and was very patient with them when they tangled lines, lures and nets and created chaos on his boat. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Lucy, in 2012, his parents, Anton (1958) and Annie (1996), and a younger brother John (2003). He is survived by his son Randy (Cynthia) of Yorkton and their three children, Courtney Kachur (Steve Will) of Calgary, Liddy Hilderman (Craig) of Saskatoon and Logan Kachur of Saskatoon, and his son, Donald (Corey) of San Diego. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve and Joseph (Josie) and his sisters, Lena (Bill) Pura, Mary Kuz and Sylvia (Michael) Yaremko, all of Winnipeg, along with nieces and nephews and many friends. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Logan Kachur and the epistle reader was Liddy Hilderman. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Courtney Kachur, Steve Will, Liddy Hilderman, Craig Hilderman, Logan Kachur and Joseph Laszlo serving as the casket bearers. Words of appreciation were extended by Randy Kachur. Memorials honouring Paul's life may be made to St. Mary's Church Building Fund, 155 Catherine St. Yorkton, SK S3N 0B6.
