Obituary of Stan Wiwchar
William Slawko Wiwchar of the Gorlitz district, beloved husband of Victoria Wiwchar passed away peacefully on April 30, 2022. Stan, affectionately known by many, was born on February 27, 1928 at Canora, a son of John and Nellie (nee Wihnan) Wiwchar. He received his education at Ukraina School and helped on the family farm. On June 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Victoria Anaka at St. Andrew's United Church in Canora. Their marriage was blessed with three children. In 1956 they moved to Canora where Stan was employed by the Canora Co-op Creamery. In 1960 they moved to establish their farm west of Gorlitz while Stan continued to work at the creamery. Upon retirement from the creamery, Stan continued to farm until semi retirement but continued to raise cattle and hogs. Stan loved watching curling and following his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He especially enjoyed his time fishing with family and friends. There was also the Saturday night cribbage games with a hockey game on tv in the background. Above all, his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him. Stan became a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora on September 15, 2021 where he passed away.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Nellie, sisters Maria in childhood and Christine Lischynski and his brother Glenn; he is lovingly remembered by his wife Vicky, his daughter Donna (Len) Joncas of Regina, his two sons, Darryl of the Gorlitz district and James (Jodi) of Grandora. He also leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren: Lyndsay (Steve) Evett, Leighton (Teagen) Wiwchar, Janessa (Jack) Mitchell and Jory Wiwchar; also six great-grandchildren: Oakley, Lane and Branson Evett and Weston, Bentley and Hayden Wiwchar, as well as sister-in-law Vicky Wiwchar of Canora; brother-in-law Dan Lischynski of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. The pianist / soloist, Amanda Buhler led in the hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Two special selections, "Good Ole Days" and "Hold on To God" which son James was a part of were included in the service. Eulogies were conveyed by Brent Kennedy and Mike Buzinski. Honorary Pall Bearers were Lyndsay Evett and Janessa Mitchell. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jory Wiwchar, Leighton Wiwchar, Steve Evett, Jack Mitchell, Daniel Buzinski and Christopher Buzinski serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Stan can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association as gifts of remembrance. Service Details.
