Obituary of Larry Alfred Sawyer

September 14, 1938 - April 8, 2014 SAWYER - Larry Alfred Sawyer beloved husband of Hollylyn Sawyer of Yorkton and formerly of Gillam, Manitoba was a twin born September 14th, 1938 in the Whitewood General Hospital in the province of Saskatchewan. During his younger years he lived on the family farm near Whitewood and later left to work for a farmer for room and board. He was united in marriage to Pat Dedora in July of 1966. This marriage was blessed a son Darren in 1967 and a second son Grant in 1969. They opened their heart and home to a six month old daughter Loretta-Lyn whom they adopted in 1978. Larry took a job with Elgin Exploration in Calgary. Here he met the love of his life Hollylyn Linda June Mitchell. Their love continued to blossom and were married on April 18th, 1986. Larry was a great husband, father, brother and grandfather. His positive attitude, contagious laugh and grand personality endeared him to everyone he met. Family gatherings were always filed with good conversations and plenty of laughter. Larry and Hollylyn moved to Gillam, Manitoba in 1982 where Larry obtained a job with Manitoba Hydro, a career that span over 18 years. He worked as a utility man on the Kettle Generating Station. Larry lived life in his own way and on his own terms. He enjoyed skidooing to their cabin on Gillam Island and walking the family pet dog, Kahani. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Hollylyn; son Darren, son Grant and his wife Noreen, grandsons Lane and Travis, all of Radville, SK; stepson Bruce Mitchell and his wife Susette and grandsons Ben and Evan of Lubbock, Texas, sister Sharon Stein of Edmonton, sister Edith Machuik of Ituna, twin brother Lloyd and his wife Sharon of Kelliher, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and all who knew him. Larry's presence in our lives will be greatly missed. I love you Larry, love always Hollylyn. A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were celebrated on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 7:00 pm from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. Certified Celebrant officiating. Words of Remembrance were given by Darren Sawyer & Bruce Mitchell. Soloist, Amanda Buhler sang ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness', ‘Amazing Grace' and ‘How Great Thou Art'. Lloyd Sawyer, Brian Paul Rindall, Bruce Mitchell, Terry Shoup, Grant Sawyer and Darren Sawyer served as the casketbearers. A committal service will take place at a later date. Memorials in memory of Larry may be made to the Yorkton S.P.C.A. as gifts of remembrance.
