KAMINSKY - With sadness, but a great appreciation for the long active live he lived, Orest's family announces the end of his journey on May 7, 2014. He was 86 years of age. Orest Kaminsky was born on September 24, 1927 at his farm home in the Wroxton District to Metro and Lillian (Derbowka) Kaminsky. He grew up on the farm helping his father and eventually ended up farming the land for many years beyond his retirement. Orest married his sweet heart Rose (Kohut) on July 17, 1958 in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elia in Wroxton. They were blessed with four children; Mervin (met with his Lord 1960), Bob, Donna & Mitchell. Orest and Rose were married for 55 wonderful years. He was a very loving dedicated husband and father. He worked very hard all his life, on his farm and when the crop was growing he would take jobs on at Morris and Weber Homes. Not only did he do hard manual labor but he also learned to cook and bake. He made many perogies, apple pies, cakes and many other tasty goods. In July 1976 Orest and Rose purchased a home in Yorkton. Bob and Donna were happy to have their own rooms and running water. In November a very special gift was received by the family - Mitchell. Orest was a farmer at heart and very dedicated to his farm, his family and his church. He spent many years as an Elder, serving and assisting the Parish Priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elia in Wroxton and The Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Yorkton where he and his family were devoted members. For his 45 years of dedication as an Elder he was the recipient of the very Honorable Bishop's Award. Orest was also a member of the Order of St. Andrew. He served on many committees in these organizations. Rose's parents lived with them. After one year her dad passed away but her mother lived with them for 16 years. In the latter 3 years she had suffered a stroke. Orest was a very caring and compassionate man. He looked after his mother-in-law many times when Rose was out teaching. Orest was predeceased by his parents Metro & Lillian, Rose's parents Alex & Ellen Kohut and Orest's step mother Anna (Toderian), his son Mervin, his brother Bill, his step brothers Jim, William, Pat (Julie),Harry (Carrie), George (Elizabeth) and Nick, his bothers-in-law George (Helga) and Bill Kohut, sister-in-law Mary (Mike) Mostoway & Ernest. His memory will be cherished by his wife Rose; children Bob (Bernice), Mitchell (Isabella), Donna and his granddaughters Tamara & Emma. His sister Marie (Peter) Husak and his sisters-in-law Lena Kaminsky, Elsie Kohut and many special nephews, nieces and cousins. Prayers were held on Monday, May 12, 2014 and the Funeral Service on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Gerald Yaholnitsky & parish choir members. The cross bearer was Henry Wasylyshen. Serving as the honourary bearers were Bill Semenuik, Tom Bates, Jim Ellaschuk. The Interment took place in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ron Rogalsky, Keith Strutynski, Terry Husak, Wade Husak, Tony Oucharek and Myron Rubletz serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Orest's life may be made to Holy Transfiguration Church Building Fund or the Diabetes Association as gifts of remembrance.
