Obituary of Hazel Maude Cobb
Hazel "Shay" Maude Price was born August 25, 1927 in Armstrong, B.C. She was the ninth of ten children born to Ewart and Mabel Price. As a young teen she made her choice to serve God, a choice that guided her life. In 1947, she met Richard Cobb, a young man from Ontario who had come to B.C. for the apple harvest. After two years of letter writing, he returned to Armstrong to claim his bride on September 9, 1949. Their honeymoon was the train ride back to his farm at Powassan, Ontario where they raised their three sons and farmed for twenty-nine years. In 1978, they made Theodore their new home, following their sons who one by one had already moved to Saskatchewan. They enjoyed travelling, being close to their grandchildren and helping with convention preparations on their son George's farm. Shay was well known for her spotless house, delicious baking and faithful letter-writing to workers, friends and family world-wide. Life took a drastic turn when Richard had a major stroke in October of 1991. After two years of hospitalization, with Shay constantly by his side, he came home and she became his dedicated caregiver until he passed away in January of 2001. She continued in her home until failing health necessitated a move to Theodore Long Term Care Facility in 2009. There she was lovingly cared for until she passed away Thursday evening, May 22. We will miss her. She was a deeply spiritual lady whose love for God influenced her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings: Triss (Ormand) Graham, Enid (infant), Ron (Pearl), Kitsy (Aage) Kofoed, Harry (Doris) and brother-in-law Bill Lansdowne; her loving husband of 51 years, Richard; and daughter-in-law Mavis. She leaves a legacy of love with her sons and their families: George (Jan) of Theodore and their sons Jeff (Jodi), Jolan (Julie), Jayden (Donna) and Justin (Candace); son John (Anita) of Lumsden and their family Linnea, Alissa (Mark) McMeeken, Jackson and Laura; son David of Wroxton (fiancée Bonnie) and his children Phillip (Mindy), Faron, Regan (Lindsey), Jesse (Audrey), Emily (Jeff) Clarkson, Dickon and Rowan, as well as sixteen great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Jack and sisters Em Lansdowne and Edna Price, all of Kelowna; surviving Cobb in-laws Fred, Frank (Dorothy), Jim (Helen), Phillip and Mervin Birt; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
