COLES - Reg Coles, beloved husband of Marilyn of Good Spirit Acres, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1st 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre surrounded by his loving family. Reg was born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 6, 1943; he was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mabel Coles, and by a sister Norma Heisler of Regina. Reg attended elementary country school at Michigan center and his high school at Leduc, Alberta. He then moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the early 60's and played hockey for the Moose Jaw Canucks for three years. After Jr. hockey he was recruited by the Yorkton Terrier Senior Hockey Club, playing for them until the Jr Terriers were formed in 1972. He was married in 1965 to Janet Swiderek of Moose Jaw and was blessed with two children: son Chad, and daughter Tanis, and they in turn blessed him with four wonderful grandchildren. In 1967 Reg was hired into the General Insurance Business, with Independent Agencies at Yorkton, by owner Morley Lockhart. In 1968 the business was sold to Jim Caudle and Reg became a partner with Jim in the business in 1969. In the mid-eighties, Tom Dutton became Reg's business partner. Reg was very fortunate to have worked with two great partners and a lot of excellent staff over the years. In March of 2007, Reg fully retired. Reg's involvement outside the office included: Director on the Insurance Brokers Assoc. of Saskatchewan; Director of the Yorkton Real Estate Board; Associate Director of the Yorkton Exhibition Board; Director & Past President of the Yorkton Jr. Terriers; Co-chairman of the 1999 Royal Bank Cup. Reg loved the game of golf, he was past president of the Co-Ed Seniors Club at Good Spirit Acres and had a great time golfing with his friends there. He spent lots of time golfing & socializing with his old time Terrier buddies. He entertained them with his many trick shots and some safety tips driving golf carts in high water areas. Reg met the love of his life and best friend Marilyn in 1981, and they were married in Hawaii in 1992. The couple enjoyed travelling and taking annual winter holidays to many warm climates. Reg and Marilyn finally settled on Palm Springs, and in 2010 purchased a condominium there. And as a good friend so lovingly wrote: Reg was one of the most decent persons you could ever know. He lived his life with integrity. He had many loves. He deeply loved Marilyn, his children and grandchildren, travelling, golf and the Yorkton Terriers. The Terriers brought Reg to Yorkton and he was able to see them win a national championship. He was extremely loyal, to his family, to his friends, to his teammates both in business and in sports, to his business clients and to his community. He will be missed by all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marilyn, son Chad (Renee) and children Ainsley & Andon of Prince Albert; daughter Tanis (Derek) Hicks and children Avery & Brodie of Regina; sister Phyllis Robinson of Stoney Plain, AB; brother-in-law Pat Heisler of Regina; brother-in-law Glen Paskiw of Regina; and many nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiating. The eulogy was given by Reg's wife Marilyn. His grandchildren were the candle-lighters. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories with son Chad as the urnbearer.
