Obituary of Mary Wingerak
Mary Wingerak was born on August 21, 1917 in the Goodeve District of Saskatchewan, a daughter to Sam and Annie (nee Lulchuk) Denesiuk. Mary received her education at Crescent Bluff School and helped on the farm. After receiving her education Mary moved to Melville and worked for Bell's Dairy for a while. On November 16, 1940 Mary was united in marriage to John Wingerak at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Goodeve. The couple resided on a farm in the Jasmin district where their first two daughters were born then three years later they moved to the Fenwood district where the rest of their children were born. When the couple decided to retire they sold their land to daughter Joan and her husband Steve in spring of 1975. Just as they were planning to move to Melville, John suffered a stroke. Mary purchased a home in Melville and continued to reside there until 1988 then Mary moved into an apartment. In 1993 Mary was one of the first residents to move in to the Legion Manor and resided there until 2008 then moved to Aspen Bluffs Villa in Yorkton. Mary moved one more time in 2011 to St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville where she resided until entering her eternal rest peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, August 24, 2014 just 3 days after celebrating her 97th birthday. Mary was a very active member of St. George's Church and spent countless hour cooking and serving at the Ukrainian Catholic Hall on different occasions. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Melville Seniors, and Meals on Wheels, President of St. George's Ladies, President of the Legion Mannor tenants and a Bingo Caller at the Manor. Mary enjoyed bowling, traveling, cooking, gardening, growing flowers, reading, watching TV, knitting and crocheting. Her most enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by her, Parents, Sam and Annie; husband, John; daughter, Marlene; sons, Terry and Lorne; son-in-law, Steve; granddaughter, Dawn; daughter-in-law Norma; four sisters, three in infancy and sister Nellie Burak; four brothers, Fred, Bill, Walter and Russell; sisters-in-law, Jean and Ruth; brothers-in-law, Nick Tekatch, Mike Burak and Buck Morgan; Mary leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Joan Sass of Melville, Shirley (John) Karpinski, Dolores (Don) Shawaga; Bev (Eugene) Maystrowich; son, Lyonel Wingerak; daughters-in-law, Pat Wingerak and Terry Wingerak; son-in-law, Willie Kammer; 24 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; sisters, Annie Tekatch, Olga Morgan; brothers, Mervin (Emma) Denesiuk and Orest (Nettie) Denesiuk; sister-in-law Mae Denesiuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
