Obituary of Janet Megan Gross
Janet Megan Gross was born December 23, 1938 in Bangor, Sk. to parents Dan and Megan Owen. Life didn't start out easy for her and her sisters Joan and Marjorie. Shortly after Janet was born she lost her mother due to complications from childbirth. Janet and Marjorie went to live with their mother's sister Annie (Barr) while Joan lived with relatives Mary and David Lewis. Fortunately they were all able to stay in Bangor. Being of Welsh descent, Janet and her sisters loved to sing and she carried her love for music throughout her lifetime. It was actually odd to enter her home when there wasn't music playing in later years. Janet never missed a music festival. She was extremely proud of her Welsh Heritage and anytime she could link a situation to a saying she'd heard from her Tiad or her father, she took the opportunity to share her pride, whether anyone wanted to hear it or not. In her teens, Janet moved to Saskatoon and later to Regina seeking work but later returned to Melville to marry the love of her life (Edwin Jack) Jake Gross in 1962. The following year the union was blessed with a son, Darcy. She was a stay at home mom and enjoyed playing games and sports with Darcy until she found her career as a daycare supervisor. This wasn't a job for Janet, rather it was a way for her to nurture children. Her time spent at the daycare left her with many fond memories and stories to last a lifetime, along with some relationships with co-workers and the children she helped care for. The door to Jake and Janet's home was always open to friends, including many young people, nieces, nephews and later, grandchildren. Whenever children were present, Janet was in her happy place. This door was also open to any feline. Away from work she enjoyed reading, walking, watching television; mostly music channels and to the dismay of Darcy, she had CMT playing at ear-splitting levels most days when he came to visit. Over the years Janet's home was filled with cats, dogs, a budgie and a rabbit. Janet put on many miles walking with her friend Rio. Janet, after a brief battle with cancer, passed away August 24. In Feburary 2001 Janet was predeceased by her husband Jake. Janet was also predeceased her mother and father, her sister Marjorie as well as sisters and brothers in law and a nephew. Janet leaves to mourn, her son Darcy and his wife Leesa, grandchildren Aimee Proskie and Carma Cechanowicz (Evan), sister Joan Morgan (Ted) as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
