Obituary of Nick Borys

Nick Borys aged 94, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2014, at St. Ann's Home in Saskatoon surrounded by his family. Nick spent several months at St. Ann's, and previously several months at St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon. Nick was born May 31, 1920 in the Willowbrook district of Saskatchewan, son of Steve and Catherine (nee Zenchuk) Borys. His early childhood was spent being raised on the family farm north of Fenwood, and he attended Maxwelton School. Military service called on Nick, and he joined the army in Nov 1939. He served in the Kings Own Rifle Regiment. World War II ended and he received his discharge in 1946. He returned to farming, and married Ann Balaberda on October 26, 1947 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. They farmed in the Fenwood district until 1960. Nick and Ann moved to the Waldron district and continued farming until 1975. They retired, and made their home in Melville. Nick's early days were filled with trapping and outdoor activities. He was an ardent card player with his close friends. Nick was a member of the Co-op and Sask Wheat Pool. He enjoyed, playing ball in his younger years, watching TV and gardening. Nick is preceded in death by his wife Ann, brothers John, Pete, Bill and sisters Mary, Nellie, and Ann. He is survived by his two sons, Lawrence (Kathryn) of Whitby Ontario, and Murray (Joanne) of Warman Saskatchewan; three grandchildren Candace (Brad), Randolph (Lyn), and Christopher, as well as four great grandchildren Samuel, Josiah, Charlie, and Tabitha; sisters-in-law Sophie and Mary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
